I interviewed with an admissions officer from Georgetown a couple of weeks ago. Please see below a summary of the interview.

Date/Admissions Round: February 14 / Round 2

Description of visit and/or interview atmosphere: Off-campus interview with an Admissions officer in New York City. We met in the (loud, dimly lit) lobby area of the W Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. The tone of the actual interview was very laidback, with successive questions building on my own responses.

Type of interview (alum vs. adcom, blind vs. application-based): Admissions officer. Blind (and I’m pretty sure she had not reviewed my resume beforehand).

List of interview questions:

  1. Walk me through how you went from your undergraduate major to your current profession.
  2. What are your career goals? [After a "big picture" response:] How specifically would you achieve that?
  3. Why Georgetown?
  4. Have you visited?
  5. Describe a time when you’ve had to a lead a team.
  6. What would your supervisors say your biggest weakness is? What would the people you manage say?
  7. Any questions?

Commentary (What did you think of the interview? What surprised you? What didn’t surprise you? What might you conclude about the school based on this experience?): I think this confirms my perception of Georgetown’s “vibe” – specifically that it looks for people who will fit into the collaborative ethos and mix in well with a diverse, global student body. We also spoke about the program’s upward momentum in the rankings and with recruiters. All in all, a pretty good conversation that confirmed my interest in the program.
