1.    Research the school that you are applying to and make sure it is the rightprogram for you. After reading so many applications, I can tell when an applicant has donetheir homework. A good rule of thumb is to list all the things that you arelooking for in a school. If you prefer to go to a smaller school, then youmight want to avoid applying to larger institutions. You would be surprised byhow many applicants apply to programs that don’t offer courses that align withtheir career goals.

Applicants, who can take these 3 topics and weave them in to a coherentstory, have the strongest essays. All that being said make sure that you readover the essay questions and answer each question. A lot of applicants tend tostray from the question that is being asked and never fully answer the questionwe are looking for. Once your essays have been written, make sure you have someoneread them over. Remember that we read a lot of essays and the very best oneshold the attention of the committee.

I always enjoy meeting those applicants who have greatsuccess stories to tell and are able to talk about them in a way where they canremain humble. At the end ofthe day a lot of the MBA is networking and the ability of a good applicant tostay involved in the process, without becoming a nuisance. These applicantsreally get engaged by visiting campus, sitting in on a class, speaking withalums and current students, all while staying in touch with the admissionscommittee. You should all strive to be an active participant in the processbefore making such a huge investment.
