Smart and Experienced Professors
Tepper's faculty members have received wide acclaim for their research, which spans the business and economic spectrum. Of Tepper's 140 faculty members, 52 are tenured, and most have PhDs. The school has also produced six Nobel prize winners in economics: Robert Lucas, Merton Miller, Franco Modigliani, Herb Simon, Edward Prescott, and Finn Kydland.
Ambitious Students, Confident Alumni
Dean Ken Dunn, pictured above, emphasizes Tepper's preference for students who want to be challenged and aren't afraid of risk. Before Dunn became dean in 2002, he managed fixed-income portfolios.
The confidence Tepper instills in its students is evidenced by the school's successful alumni, many of whom have gone on to become innovative entrepreneurs and Fortune 500 CEOs, including Francisco D'Souza, CEO of Cognizant.
Business Plan Competitions
Grad students participate in several business plan competitions during their time at the school. Carnegie Mellon graduate students have won the Moot Corp Competition five times in the contest's 25-year history. The most recent winners were a PhD candidate at the College of Engineering and a Tepper MBA candidate. The students' venture business, NeuroBank, developed a technology to harvest neurological stem cells from cerebrospinal fluid. The team received $25,000 in cash and $100,000 in prizes, along with a year of business consulting.
Chow Time
The undergraduate and graduate business programs are housed in Posner Hall, a center of activity on campus. A 1993 addition brought technologically equipped classrooms and lecture halls to the building. And in 2000, Posner gained a third story.
Besides its business facilities, Posner also houses Ginger's, the most popular of the school's 20 on-campus eateries. Students can choose from a wide variety of food—there's everything from sushi to Indian food to Kosher options.
