I know these two are not as top as the schools usually be talked on CD, but if anyone can give any suggestion I would more than appreciate.
Rice w/10k scholarship vs UW-Madison
I'm considering factors such as expense and return (how well the program can add value to my career), plus life experience.
The total expense: would be approximately the same after counting the 10k scholarship package of Rice in.
The return:
1. I'd like to focus on technology management upon graduation; with a MS in biochemistry, my first choice would be biotech/pharmaceutical industry, but other high-tech companies are ok, too. I know Houston is the number-one in energy industry, but how about biotech? UW-Madison has a concentration specifically on Life and Engineering sciences (the SMILES: Strategic management in the life and engineering sciences), but the small size of the class (4-8 each year) and the relatively weak faculties make me wonder how well can it teach about strategic management in life sciences.
2. generally speaking, which one has better reputation? how strong the alumni networking?
Life exerience: Houston is in the south while Madison is in the north. Houston is a big city while Madison is a small one. I know I can handle hurricans but not sure about 6 months snow though people said Madison is a beautiful city. Plus, I'll take a one year old baby with me no matter where I will go, which city is better in terms of raising a child?
Please give me some suggestion; if there is any other factor(s) should I consider, please kindly address it(them) too.
Thank you in advance~~ |
