Having made up my mind to apply to B-schools for the Fall 2006 term, I'm faced with a situation that some others here have probably faced or are facing now - Why go for the Top 5 MBA (Top 7 if you will)? I'm not interested in IB or MC but would like to go for a General Management career, preferably a rotational program in an internationally focused firm. I'm looking at the cost numbers in the Top-5 and they are staggering (more than $160K!). It makes sense for someone interested in IB or MC to go to the Top-5 because the big firms in those sectors recruit in droves. So why do people who are not interested in IB/MC strive to get into the Top-5? Do these schools offer something that few others can? Is the cachet worth the initial financial setback - especially if you are interested in what are on average - lower paying jobs as opposed to Wall Street or MC jobs? Your opinions are appreaciated!
