这题答案是D，可我觉得C也貌似对，OG给的解释是C中倒置了 it was fashionable to be an
expatriate，可是我认为D中的it不正是只to be an expatriate么？这么说C还更简洁呀？？？？？

请NN指教.

如果不是放句首 long before 之前就必须有逗号，不然有可能歧义
比如：JK made P her home long, before ....

Josephine Baker made Paris her home, long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, and shen remained ...
但是这样也不行，因为不知道long bfore的表达到底是先在JB made Pairs her home 之前，还是 she remained 之前。
所以如果一定要这个表达就是 JP made P her home, long before it was fashionable to be expatrate; and she remianed...

另外JK made P her home, long before to be an expariate was fashinable; and she remianed... 是不行的
因为 long before从句是 JK made P home的time clause, 所以它的逻辑主语就是JK。而不能把to be expariate 当成 time clause的主语。所以It was fashionalbe to be expatiate是必须的，这样才能明确time clause的主语和main clause 不是一个。

LZ可以把C选项放回句子里来看,即:J make Pairs her home long before…… and she remained in……as a ……
再看一下D ：long before……，J made Pairs her home， and she remained in……as a ……
很显然D在叙述的顺序上优于C，D在交代了一个时间状语后，就很顺畅地开始说J怎样怎样一直到句末了。C却先说J，然后突然出现一个时间，然后又开始说J怎样，叙述的连贯性被打断了。
比如明明可以说：1500年前，公主遇见了王子，公主和王子快乐地生活在一起。
    却要说成：公主遇见王子早于1500年前，公主和王子快乐地生活在一起。

我认为it在句中不起指代作用 ，而是形式主语，真正的主语是 to be an expariate

C你若直接说to be就会引起发起者不明确。D说的比C清楚多了。

不定式作主语的时候通常都会用it指带，否则听众不能很快catch谓语动词
