84.
In Borania many people who want to quit smoking wear nicotine skin patches, which deliver small doses of nicotine through the skin.  Beginning next month, these patches can be purchased without a doctor's prescription.  Although nonprescription patches will be no more effective than those obtained by prescription and will be equally expensive, patch manufacturers are nevertheless predicting that the patches' new nonprescription status will boost sales, which have slowed considerably in recent years.
Which of the following, if true in Borania, most strongly supports the manufacturers' prediction?
A. Most people who wanted to quit smoking and who found the nicotine skin patch helpful in quitting have quit.
B. Nicotine skin patches generally cost more to use than do other types of aids that help people to quit smoking.
C. Several nonprescription aids aimed at helping people to quit smoking have been widely available for a number of years.
D. Many smokers who want to quit smoking feel that they cannot afford to visit a doctor for a prescription.
E. People who use nicotine skin patches have approximately the same rate of success in quitting smoking as do people who use other aids aimed at helping people to quit smoking.

Think as a businessman. First mover's advantage is a known phenomena for startups. You have no competition if you are the first vendor or manufacturer of a new product. A crowded playing field is a nightmare for entrepreneurs unless a brilliant idea which kills the competition.

Further, success cannot be copied from an established enterprise to a newcomer. Why would customers switch their purchasing habit from a trustworthy brand to a new one? Especially in medicine, what about the side effects for the new medication? The consumers would choose a reliable medicine instead of a fashionable new one.

Finally, the fact that there were similiar medicines available does not indicate that any of them was successful. Maybe all of them are loosing money!

If a new product entering an established market with several competing products, the chance of its financial success is significantly diminished (sales would not increase significantly).

On the other hand, if a new product entering a NEW market with NO rival products, then the chance of its financial success would be greatly enhanced.

Thus, C) is weakening.

结论是the patches' new nonprescription status will boost sales。

In the past year Harborville has had an unusually high rate of new cases of a certain disease. An investigation revealed that over the past five years Harborville's public water supply has had a high level of pollutants.Medical researchers have hypothesized that Harborville's water is responsible for the high rate of new cases of the disease.

Each of the following, if true, provides additional support for the researchers' hypothesis EXCEPT:

(A) Most of the people afflicted with new cases of the disease had regularly drunk larger quantities of Harborville's water than had other Harborville residents.

(B) The same type of pollutants that were found in Harborville's water have independently been linked to occurrences in other towns of high rates of the disease.

(C) Some of the people with newly diagnosed cases of the disease began to develop the disease before Harborville's water became polluted.

(D) The rate of new cases of the disease among residents of Harborville who get their water from private sources is not unusually high.

(E) Towns with geographic and demographic characteristics similar to those of Harborville but without polluted water do not have as high a rate of the disease as does Harborville.
