Miami's business school is top-notch. The teachers are well qualified and the classes are generally small. The only main issue is academic advising. Students are intimidated to speak to their assigned advisers, but I have found that students usually find a teacher they really trust and talk to him or her about classes and jobs. That is what is nice at Miami, the teachers are approachable and have real-world experience in careers we hope to obtain.

The accounting program, more so than the business school per se, is why I feel I am most prepared to enter the workplace. The business school overall is good, but the accounting department, I believe, is a step above.

The competition among the students encourages everyone, students and professors alike, to work harder and achieve more.

The type of people who Miami University attracts has a good understanding of what it takes to balance school work and a social life. Over one-third of the campus is Greek, so social life is important to many people. However, the competitiveness in the business school is blatantly obvious, and every business school student I know is hard-working. I believe Miami's business school students will find success in life because of they will have the ability to develop an effective work-life balance.

In the marketing major, there are many opportunities for real world experience. The Miami Sales Challenge is the final project in the MKT 405 class, and it assigns groups to real world business-to-business sales companies that allow the students to come up with outside-the-box solutions for the assigned company. There is also the Target case in which MKT 301 classes came up with unique solutions to help Target enter into fresh produce. Capstone courses also let students gain valuable real world experience.

It's a big program, but it feels small and personable. You have many options to further yourself and gain a competitive advantage when seeking a job, the business school is beautiful and the program and facility reflect a sense of professionalism that creates a motivating energy. The program brings in many guest speakers and hosts events that give students opportunities to develop connections and further narrow down their focus for the future. Sometimes, students can get locked in and lose focus in such a small town, but the school does a good job of bringing in people from the outside world to help you remember why you are here and what you are aiming for.

I think the emphasis on making undergraduate students prepared for the workplace sets the Farmer School of Business apart from others with which I am familiar. My experiences in the economics departments have also taught me a level of critical thinking and analysis more advanced than one would naturally obtain in other parts of the university or at other institutions.

I think the main thing that makes the Farmer School of Business unique is that many of the classes have you working with actual big-name companies, which give you real world experience. Teachers also give assignments that are consistent with actual job tasks.

I was allowed to study abroad in Ghana and easily fit that into my schedule. Also, the choice in majors is outstanding - an important reason I decided to come to this school.

Looking back on my entire business program experience, I have noticed that undergraduate education has been deteriorating. When I took introductory business classes, I was usually in a small classroom setting (between 25 to 30 people). Now, most of the underclassmen with whom I have spoken say that their class sizes are much larger, and they feel that this had a negative impact on their learning experience. I think that larger class sizes make students feel uncomfortable to ask questions and make the classroom setting much less interactive. I feel that Miami has been spending money on the wrong things, such as new buildings like the Farmer School of Business, instead of spending money on hiring more professors to keep class sizes small and student-faculty ratios low.

I strongly believe that Miami's business program fully prepared me to enter the professional world upon graduation. The wealth of student organizations and degree of participation within them make our program truly outstanding. The many opportunities for students to take on leadership roles outside the classroom is what prepares them for successful careers in business.

I think that our business program is unique because of the professors' commitment to the value of undergraduate education. The majority of the teachers that I have had in the business program have showed a true passion for teaching. Since I have taken advantage of teacher's office hours, I have built many relationships with my teachers that have made me realize how intelligent all of the business program teachers are.

I believe our program has the best teaching quality of any undergraduate business school. No TAs teach classes; all are taught by professors who possess their PhDs. Also, our school emphasizes quantitative problem solving over everything else, something that can never be undervalued when looking for a job.

I believe that Miami's business program is unique in that the spirit of the school is evident in the commitment of the staff and faculty to taking steps beyond the classroom to constantly improve the educational and professional value of FSB. Everyone works together to reach the goals that we are looking to reach through our program - continuously improving our reputation, our expectations, our ethical awareness, our diversity, and our long-term perspective.

[What makes the program unique is that] I can market myself and tailor my skills and past work experience to fit a larger variety of full-time job opportunities than any other jobless college student.

For a school that most people seldom think of in a town nestled in the farmlands of Ohio, we constantly produce top employees and future employers in every industry. The students here make the difference. Unlike some who attend the Ivy League schools because they constantly have their heads in the books, our students not only have the academic skills, but we have the social skills necessary to become future titans of industry. We know that it takes a lot more than book smarts to make it to the top, and our professors drill that into us from day one.

I have been at a loss of words each time I enter the new Farmer School of Business. I feel like I do not deserve such a great facility because it is such a massive step up from what we had before. This will certainly allow the students to focus on their business courses more than before because we no longer have to trek across campus to get to class. We can use the 15 minute passing period to review notes and speak with professors and classmates. More than anything, gains in efficiency of learning will be huge. I cannot express how happy I have been with our business program, and if I end up working in the Midwest, I will absolutely be applying to Miami's one-year accelerated MBA program, which is [in my opinion] among the top 10 in the country.

TOP

Classes are focused on preparing us for the future. We focus on things that will be on the CPA exam and preparation for the new International Accounting Standards.

Considering our school is somewhat limited because we are not in a big city, Miami uses many resources to bring in guest speakers and companies to come and speak with us. Last semester I participated in a marketing campaign for the NCAA Men's Basketball.

Excellent teaching staff and real world examples [make this program unique]. Students have exposure to current issues and have the chance to hear from leaders in the business world, including CEOs, CFOs, and controllers.
