谓语的省略，只是在一些特定情况下。主要是以下两种情况：

1.并列句中的省略

　　在以and, or, but或分号连接的并列句中，后一分句中与前一分句相同的部分经常被省略。例如：

　　2.复合句中的省略

　　①在用as if, if, though, when, where, while, no matter what, until等引导的从句中，若谓语动词为be，而主语又与主句的主语相同时，从句的主语和谓语动词be通常省略。例如：

　　When (water is) pure, water is a kind of colorless liquid.

　　②在以than, as引导的比较状语从句中，一些与主句相同的部分常被省略。例如：

我觉得在正式的书面英语里，这样做恐怕不行。可以省略一部分重复的内容，但要保证句子结构是完整的。
