the following appears in a memorandum from XX company CEO to its HR department:

revenue per employee has declined。clearly, the new employees hired over the past two years are earning more than they should because their productivity is not as good as the old ones due to lower level of skills and motivation. Human resources department is to blame for this situation.

profit margin 降低can be due to various reasons, skyrocketing raw material costs, changes in tax regulations or interest rate policies, competition from industrial peers etc.

it can be caused by unscientific supply chain management, insufficient training, unattractive compensation packages.

emergence of powerful competitors, demographic shifts in the country/region where the firm operates, transformation in the industry landscape due to product cycle or change in consumer preferences都有可能导致即使HR再卖力也招不到好人。

所以blaming the issue the company currently faces on HR is a hasty conclusion characterized by patchy evidence and premature conclusions blah blah blah

issue是39. “It is difficult for people to achieve professional success without sacrificing important aspects of a fulfilling personal life.”

The speaker contends that achieving professional success will most likely result in the sacrifice of important aspects of a fulfilling personal life. While I agree it is challenging to juggle professional endeavors and personal life in today's rapid developing society, these two are not mutually exclusive and a fulfilling personal life is in fact a prerequisite for sustained professional success.

Admittedly, today's society is developing at a breath-taking speed and the landscape of our business environment and job scopes changes in a dazzling and confusing manner that often saps away our energy and calls for ever-increasing attention and devotion from us. The scarcity of time gives rise to conflicts between our personal lives and professional careers: We miss dinner appointment due to unexpected emergencies at work; we forget our children's birthdays as we struggle in emails, appintments and conference meetings; we easily lose our temper at home as we vent out frustrations from work. It seems that personal life often has to be compromised to ensure a successful career.

But does it have to be?

Although it is indeed difficult, there are still many people who are able to manage their personal life and work and achieve harmony between the two. After all, effective time management and priority reshuffling is part of today's essential soft skills. In the modern workplace, a successful career high-achiever must possess the ability to not only manage his work, but also manage his personal life. Barack Obama achieved the ultimate level of professional success, becoming the first African American president in the US history. At the same time, he does not ignore his wife, Michelle Obama, who makes frequent appearances in various events together with him, and his daughters, setting an example for America on what a model family looks like. One of the criteria that any companies nowadays increasing use to judge employees' performance
is whether they could maintain work-life balance.

Z

In fact, professional success without a balanced and fulfilling personal life is not sustainable. Our homes are to us like battery charges to rechargable batteries. We all need spiritual comfort and mental peace to keep us sane and rational, to give us hope and motivation, to complement us as complete human beings instead of ruthless, heartless working machines. A person without a proper spiritual shelter or emotion outlet will soon experience problems in his work, just like a uncharged battery, which won't last. In Japan, where social pressures are enormously high and working hours extremely long for professionals, the suicidal rate is also unusually high among working classes. It is the lack of balance between work and life that caused the mental frictions to escalate to a level that a normal person cannot sustain.

To conclude, while admitting it is indeed challenging to keep a balance between professional success and personal life, I want to stress the increasing importance of this balance and point out that without it, sustained professional success will only be an illusion.

语文阅读,一篇是讲美国公司的competitor analysis practice的,有两种approach,一种是hire experienced analysts whose sole responsibility in the company is to perform competitor analysis. 另一种是 appoint future high-level management of the company to perform CA.
