周一做的校友Interview，简述供大家参考。
老外，人很客气，约在咖啡馆，比较静，不影响面试
上来先简单聊聊天，住的远近，哪里人，我也问了对方的一些基本情况。
等咖啡上来后，就进入正题。
go through resume,why mba,why columbia, long/short career goal, international diversity example, why current job,activities in university,what i want to do for the school after graduation of columbia，any other school apply
然后还有很多非典型性的问题follow up或闲聊，问我去过哪些国家，从国际友人身上learn anything unexpected，我所在和未来要做的行业的insight，也给我一些他的理解和认识，美国的实践。
再之后，给了我很长的时间问问题。
总共花了1.5小时。
对方不是那种特别情绪外显型的，所以也无从明显判断对方的感受。
面试，最关键就是多准备，写，背，mock，强化口语。

Columbia MBA 新加坡面经 - Dec 9, 2009 (超详细)

今天在UOB Center的Dome Cafe面了CBS。

面试官是个校友，华裔（似乎是台湾人ABC），本科在UC Berkeley，MBA在CBS。现在在一个专供security和compliance的软件公司做亚太的抗坝子。

约了11点，但是他很忙，迟到了15分钟，来了以后又接了个电话，似乎下属在跟他请示什么东西。
他跟我说他只有40分钟左右的时间。但是整个过程却很轻松，很conversational。

以下是他问的问题：

1. talk a bit more about your undergraduate degree.

这个是他看着我resume问的。中间他有打断我，我也有反打断他，整个就是非常conversational，不像个面试。

2. talk about your career progress. 然后他看到我的resume，很惊讶的说 oh, i didn't know you only worked for two years. （以前我们在info session见过面，当时聊了好一会儿，后来我还有陶瓷）

so i talked about the two roles that i have had with my current company. the challenges i faced and the scope of the jobs. 然后他有插话，比如我提到structured products，他就想了解具体什么样的structured products （他以前似乎做过trader）。于是来了个finance 101，还聊到CDO, equity-linked notes 和carry trade。

3. your career goal.

我就谈到我long term的VC的goal，以及这个goal是怎么慢慢crystallized的。同时谈了我对大环境，VC和biotech industry的认识（我打算focus在biotech）他听了我的见解似乎很满意，说很好不错，我认识一个很牛的北京哥们和我一届的，现在在fountainvest，我可以给你他的联系方式你可以问他一些问题。我赶紧把他说的写下来。

4. what other schools have you applied for.

挺惊讶他这么早就问这个问题的。于是我很坦诚的告诉他，我还申请了chicago duke 和NYU. 他问我为什么没申wharton，我说我对他们的essay和deadline都不是很comfortable。他对chicago很感兴趣，说没和chicago的人打过太多交道。还问我他们的info session是什么样子，他们singapore的campus什么样，校友去的多不多之类的。问的我很囧，他看到了连忙说 don't worry i'm just curious. 我起初还担心他会问我会选择chicago还是cbs。可看上去他是自动assume我会选cbs了，对cbs的brand非常自信。同时他似乎很鄙视NYU，觉得和CBS根本不是一个档次的。。。

5. what do you think is the difference between chicago and columbia.

我天南海北的瞎扯了一通。感觉他问这个问题的目的不是面试，而是他真的想知道，完全出于好奇。

6. why columbia.

我谈到了一些个人的经历，又设法扯回到我career goal去了。
7. an example that you demonstrated leadership.

我讲了我工作上的例子，他看上去非常impressed，然后围绕我举得例子又问了一大堆问题。

8 ethical dilemma

我讲了工作上的例子。他听了也觉得很满意，说i'm impressed by your interpersonal skills.

9.  what is your immediate goal upon graduation.

我说equity research focusing on biotech.

10. any backup plan if your immediate goal can't be realized?

我说可以去做consulting，再差也至少可以去一些医药公司。然后我说我对CBS的reputation绝对有信心。

然后他时间就差不多到了，（我看他不停的有短信进来）然后他让我问他问题。我问他how has the CBS brand helped you differently in different stages of you career so far.

他大体的回答是CBS是一个elite school，所以顶级的公司都会给你interview。如果你去例如UCLA之类的school，这些顶级公司你也能进去，不过你have to be an outlier.
后来工作越久，学校的影响就越浅。不过他还是surprised now and then how much weight the columbia brand carries. it has helped to open a lot of doors.
他大概聊了六七分钟他的经历，总结就是说哥伦比亚给人一个非常好的credential。

面试于是就结束了。他看上去非常满意，我们聊得也很对的上频率，比之前和chicago校友的面试感觉好多了。

他末了说了一堆夸奖和鼓励的话，然后说i hope you will get in.

号外：

1、咖啡厅的setting让整个面试更加轻松。chicago是在校友办公室，自然就肃穆庄严不少。。。
2、他对CBS的魅力和实力非常有自信。但也很看得起chicago，不大看得起NYU（当时info session就很坦率的说他觉得NYU比CBS和chicago差一个档次），根本就没提duke。。
3、他跟我说interview大概有40%的人拿到offer，不过不知道他的信息准不准。

Columbia Alumni MBA 面试

今天刚面完哥大，找的校友是09年刚毕业的，他做的是value investment，还算和我的兴趣有关，再加上他公司离我公司只隔两天马路，也省得我请假了。

一共谈了45分钟左右，先是问我要了ID看，说是哥大的新政策。

问的都是比较标准的问题:

- why MBA (跟他说了short term/long term goal,解释了自己想转道buy side pension consulting，然后他也问了我一些pension buy side方面有什么比较特殊的东西，接着跟他忽悠了一些我们公司搞得liability driven investment)

- team work experience: (我开口回答说我们公司的结构就是break into client teams，我在我的teams里面manage 7个人的样子，他就说这个问题不需要接着回答了)

- why columbia (跟他解释我家领导正在哥大读书，所以哥大对我算是个no brainer,然后他说他当年也是这个情况；话题这样被他剁过去搞得我本来准备的其他东西也没机会抖出来了)

- ethical dilemma (他给了三个问题让我选一个，我就选了这个)

我接着问了他几个问题就收场了(问了他新的caseworks怎么样，如何可以混进heilbrunn选到几门有意思的课，怎么manage第一年的schedule, 09年工作形势)，他最后还给了我heilbrunn director的联系方法，说对以后找工作有用。

Columbia MBA Alumni Interview @ HK

Hey all,

Just finished interview with a Columbia Alumni in HK, not a very traditional IB background interviewer, but one who works in executive search, a very nice lady. So, wanna share my experience with other candidates here.

(So sorry my chinese is not so good so to save translation time, I rather write it in english to reflect the real setting)

My background

Big 4 IT audit / Financial audit 3.75 years
Leisure/entertainment group IA 0.5 year
GMAT: 7XX

Goal

Family Business: Wine Trading

The interview was set at my interviewer's office, small conference room. Very conversational

Process / Questions: (Interviewer said no set list of question required to be asked except one, ethical dilemma)

1. Interviewer introduction (brief introduction on her background and career b4 and after MBA)

2. Tell me about your background, what you studied and what you did after graduation

3. Plan after MBA (Mine is going back to family business in wine trading)

4. What do you like Columbia? How Columbia can help on in achieving your goals

5. How do you think the prospect of wine trading in asia? (I shared some insights on the industry) And there are keen competition since there are lots of traders so whatz the competitive edge for your company? (I said something about our supply chain and customer network)

6. Difficulties / Challenge in Family Business

7. Ethical Dilemma experienced at work (I said two senarios in my auditing / internal auditing work experience)

8. Any question to ask her

The interview is conducted in a friendly atmosphere and the interviewer said i'm a good fit (maybe out of courtesy of coz) to the school. And she also tell me this year's competition is keen (which i knew) and let her know our results.

Columbia is my dream school for the last 10 years... so... May all dreams come true~

Columbia MBA alumni面经

今天终于把Columbia的面试给做了，看到论坛上面Columbia alumni面经不太多，我就写一下自己的经验以飨后人。

总共1个小时的时间，差不多45分钟他问，15分钟我问。主要的问题：

1. 简历上写我对军事感兴趣，于是讨论了很多，伊拉克阿富汗和索马里海盗都谈到了，耗时大概10分钟，囧
接下来的问题都是穿插着问的，很自然的融入对话中，顺序不一定准确，另外还有一些追问细节的问题。

5. What other schools I have applied
6. Leadership
7. Difficulties/challenges
8. Why undergraduate school/major
9. What if I don't get the desired job after graduation

然后我问了两个问题，他很耐心的给与解答，并且强调了Columbia的种种好处。整个面试中感觉面试官非常专业，虽然态度很好，但不清楚他究竟怎么想，什么事情都有可能发生。

这下子要耐心等待结果了……Fingers crossed

刚刚面完，发面经，攒rp

其他的记不得了，没有很难的问题，比如ethical， challenge，failure什么的。

面试官是一黑人IBanker，35左右，人很nice，lp是中国人。中间我们joke了一些杂七杂八的，比如columbia很多mba取中国lp，我graduate school的football，他也将了他的背景，IB经历，给了我一些发展的建议。

总共半个小时，估计他将了15分钟。我讲的不是很多，有些卖点提到了，不是很深入；不过他的风格好像是点到为止，不喜欢听太多的细节（希望我的预感正确，不然如果他觉得不impressive，就死翘翘了...)

希望有戏吧。

Columbia面试经验，请XDJM帮我分析下面试官的态度

约了校友面试，美国人，在中国经营family business。周六下午3点到上海的一家咖啡馆，早上开车前往上海，1点钟到现场，吃完午饭，出去溜达了一圈，2：15回到现场，在找座位的时候发现有一美国友人在打量我，感觉应该是，朝对方走去，落座，寒暄，友人说大概需要一小时，该走的程序他要走完。

先介绍自己，穿插着给面试官看了一些照片，然后对方开始提问：

1、What's the biggest challenge you have faced? And how did you respond?

中间提到管理矩阵的问题，又追问他感觉在中国实行的效果不好，问我们公司是如何保证效果的。简单说了几句，要进一步举例阐述的时候，他说他对这个问题已经明白了。

2、What's your leadership style? 这个问题一开始回答地不太好，他又换了个方式提问，我回答并给了一个例子。

3、针对我简历上的一项工作内容，询问和政府打交道的问题，问是否会涉及利益交换。我分情况简要回答后对方继续问ethical dilemma，我讲了例子和我的观点，即不能因为短期利益而采取实用主义，伤害公司的价值观。对方若有所思以后说有些情况下也不一定是这样，于是我又接着说了妥协下的利弊，对方似乎也表示同意。

4、short-term goal? long-term goal? motivation for future goals? what will you do if you don't get in?

当中根据我将来想从事的行业，向我推荐了一本书。

5、what other schools are you applying? why you're not applying to b-schools in China?

说了一些对学校和纽约的了解后，以及我申请的其他学校后，对方开始介绍了他对学校的了解，开始向我做marketing哥大的工作。

7、Any questions for me。 我提了三个问题，对方热情洋溢地向我分享他在哥大和在纽约的经历，并且一直向我推销哥大和纽约，以及他认为让他终生受益的课程，大概又聊了将近半个小时，结尾关于中美差异讲了一个和自己有关笑话，对方开怀大笑。

面试总共进行了大约75分钟，在热烈欢乐的氛围中结束，对方说他会尽快将interview report提交。感觉面试校友人很好，对中国情况也很了解，同时一直充满热情地推销哥大。一起出门后，临别时他说“I've enjoyed the conversation very much. you'll hear about the result before the year end (事实上是这两周) . and I hope you'll get in." 令我感觉不错。

但是前天发了thank you note以后对方没再回应，令我又产生疑问，担心自己前两个问题回答的不够好，会对总体有所影响，而面试结束时对方的祝福只是out of courtesy。

昨晚状态已改为interview completed。不管怎样，静待结果出来。衷心感谢这位nice的友人，也祝福DXJM们好运。

如大家所说，Amanda是个很nice的人，nice到看不出来面试的结果如何，她是否满意，嗯，就听天由命吧。

然后讨论到今年没有co signer了。我就表示MBA是梦想，打算卖一套北京的房子来付学费。没loan没scholarship我也会读的。

整体感觉中规中矩，有发挥不好的问题，也有预先准备好的包袱找机会抖上了。
Amanda又看不出态度如何，所以完全没概念。嗯。R1的Hub interview 大陆的应该都结束了。希望大家都有好运气。

我看很多人都没问什么常规问题，我的常规问题却不少。

我现在是吃素，拜佛，给残疾人钱。虽然说只是心理作用，但还真蛮灵的。

Columbia MBA 北京面经

版上已有不少Amanda的面经，我也贡献一个。

先说个小插曲。我其实此前一直没有收到面试邀请的邮件。突然上周六（11.14）接到Amanda的电话，说她在上海某酒店大堂等我，问我怎么还不来。非常之奇怪，估计是中间安排上出了什么问题，不仅没有把邮件发到我手里，还把我安排到上海，而不是北京。于是赶紧跟Amanda说让她再给我安排。于是，在她从上海飞到北京后，就是昨天下午，马上就面了我。

面试好像才30分钟，比大家都短。

问题有：（前后顺序可能不大记得清）

Columbia MBA面经, 11-18, 北京

在金融街威斯汀酒店26楼，面试官Amanda，一如既往地Nice, 因为昨晚参加roundtable discussion见过所以简单寒暄了几句就进入正题。

Introduce yourself


How did you select undergraduate school, followed by my experience as company's ambassador back to school for recruiting, and the alumni team I organized in my company, how to maintain its running if I go for MBA.


Any people you manage? How do you mentor the new staff joining your team.


Have you met someone who's difficult to manage? How do you solve that problem?


How did you switch from technical position to strategy


Now that you've been in a core team of the company, why do you need to pursue MBA?


Given your long-term goal is XXX, why do you choose XXX as your short-term goal?


Will you feel nervous to relocate to NYC? Will you be exciting?


What's the top3 preferable cities for working after graduation? If the No.1 city has no such a job as you wished to focus on, will you change your focus or turn to No.2 city?


If you cannot land a job as expected in short-term goal, what's your alternative position?


What's your criteria when selecting B-schools?

没有问到Why now, ethical problem, leadership, teamwork，challenging experience, failure，完全untypical...

最后Amanda说大概两周能有结果，看来如果运气好的话就得赶紧筹备$6000了。

BTW: 她今天一共要面8个人，估计上周日在上海也是这个数，给大家个参考。

大概就这么多吧，一共40分钟左右，过程很轻松，完全的聊天形式，所以很多问题也没有清晰的界限，很多都是基于个人背景、故事的追问。面试的开头和结束的时候各幽默了一下，前面那个是准备好的，后面那个是根据当时的场景即兴发挥的，Amanda还夸赞了一下。

感觉应对这种形式的面试，准备的时候不能按照typical question逐个去背，但要在脑子里把自己的目标、职业发展、兴趣想清楚，而且要有多角度的答案。
