疑惑求解惑,一个PROGRAM招生多的话是不是校友会更多,对就业更有帮助?

比如USC一直在宣传的校友网络

那对比起CALTECH一年总共才毕业几百人的小规模,USC在校友上不是完胜CALTECH、PRINCETON这些学校了?

Hey there.  This is an interesting question—let me try to help

you understand how it works.  There are actually TWO issues here: the

first, is the alumni network.  Of course in this case, the bigger the

better.  So if there are 50,000 people who have volunteered to help

graduates, this is better than if there are 500.  The bigger the

alumni network the better.  But!  On the other hand, if you have a

class of 900 students with whom you are competing with jobs, that

will make it a bit HARDER.  Let me give you a specific example—HBS

is known for general management.  And when I went to HBS (Class of

2005) when McKinsey came recruiting, EVERYONE wanted to get that job!

So it was VERY competitive—900 resumes competing for 30 slots.  If

I had gone to Stanford instead, for example, there would have been

300 resumes submitted instead, for the SAME 30 slots.  See the

difference?  So there is a trade off here.  If you intend to get your

job through on-campus recruiting, a smaller school has a slight

advantage.  But if you intend to get a job through the alumni

network, then the bigger the network the better.  I hope this makes
