而题中的调查所选取的顾客样本是从F超市中选出来，然后将这些顾客所购买的物品的价格与S超市的价格相比，发现S更贵。问题就在于这些顾客去F超市就是因为这些东西在F便宜才去的，而那些经常去S的顾客并不一定也最经常购买同样的商品。
比如，F超市的单价：苹果5 梨3； S超市的单价 苹果3 梨5
那么常去F的顾客最常买梨（因为梨在F便宜），该调查就跑到S去查，发现梨比F贵，就认为那些去S超市的顾客应该去F，这显然是错的。因为经常去S的顾客最常买的东西是苹果。
