clause in which all grammatical elements
correspond to those in the main clause。但我不懂E中it was(a goal)为什么可以省略a goal???

我把它理解成，只要在能不引起歧义的情况下，就能省略。

was 不能省略是因为如果这么做了就会引起歧义。

不知道理解的对不对。

请NN给个详细点的答案。学习下。

我觉得ETS出题的原则是能省则省，但省略的前提是没有歧义，只要没有歧义都可以省略（当然不省也不一定错，在实在其他选项都有硬伤的情况下也是可以选择的），这里有没有省略a goal都对我们的理解没有影响，因为这里根据结构平行来判断不能再用任何其他的词了

我觉得ETS的原则并不是哪些成分可以省哪些不能省，而是只要不引起歧义都可以省，这里前半句形如A is B of C，后半句也是相同的结构，那么位于谓语之后，介词of之前的那个元素，也就是B（a goal）自然可以省略掉了
