OG解释，second modifier (having..)actually modifies the first modifier.

OG 解释： As the object of a preposition and not the subject of the clause, *** does not work as the noun that the verbal phrase beginning with naming can describe.

两者有何区别，为什么第二题的naming不能修饰它就进的***（人），而第一题中having解释为修饰了第一个短语。

本人愚笨，这个问题已经想了很长时间了，找参考书也没有合适的解释，希望NN解答，谢谢了~！

Doing一般默认修饰它前句的主语

在你给的第一个例子里的B选项,having the ability修饰的是air pollutant(因为这个前句没有其他名词)

第2道题里因为前句有明确主语,所以就不能修饰那个人了

这个问题我也提过，没有得到过很好的回答，后来我观察，OG里面的现在分词，用逗号隔开的，没有就近修饰的，过去分词，逗号隔开的，就近修饰的较多

第一句B里的doing，可以作状语修饰前面那句话developed，也可以做定语修饰后面的a

technique，并且最开始的originally developed一定要紧接它修饰的名词，中间插入一个

having引导的修饰句子，破坏了它的修饰范围。
第二句doing直接放在句子最后面，后面也没有别的句子或名词了，因此只能乖乖地做状语修饰

前面的整个句子的动词
补充：GMAT考试里subject be done by object，一般为错的，被动语态只会出现在subject be

done，没有done的实际动作发出者。

也就是说问题出现在doing究竟在句子中作伴随状语（寻找逻辑主语）还是形容词的问题吗？
如果把originally分句去掉，变为，Having the ability to analyze the chemical elements in almost any substance without destroying it, a technique called....应该是成立的。这是我所谓的doing作形容词的情况。可是除了doing 放在句首之外，是否有其他情况与此种用法相同呢？比如我所问的第一个问题中，对于B选项我的理解偏向于这个选项是因为在主句主语之前罗列状语，是一种rhetorical construction 错误。OG给的解释为second modifier (having..)actually modifies the first modifier. 但却没有具体指出the first modifier 里的哪个部分；我比较同意having 作developed 的伴随状修饰其逻辑主句，即主句主语technique, “a technique was developed for detectingair pollutants, having the ability to analyze the chemical elements in almost any substance without destroying it”。可现在我疑问的地方是，忽略句子意思，having 究竟能否修饰在它前面与它就近的名词呢，就好像doing置于句首时修饰主句主语一样……

从语法的角度讲，我也不敢说doing是否可以修饰前面就近的名词，但是如果doing前面没有"，"，doing修饰前面的名词的情况是有的，但就我所知，大多还是就近修饰后面的名词，对于前面的一般还是做伴随状语的。
我手头没有语法书，不能给你确切的答案
