我看了答案以后一开始理解的是：and前后要平行，前面是主系表，后面也应该是，如果省略be动词，至少前面用复数后面也要用复数，不知道我的愚见对不对，请nn指正！

it were to do so指代前面little of the polar ice melts
其实后面的would也是一个小小提示。。。
