COB 300 is an integral part of the business program. It is four classes (marketing, management, operations, and finance) that are all inter-related to each other. Throughout the semester, we have to combine everything that we learn in all four classes and previous classes and create a business plan. It was a very challenging class, but it was very successful in making sure we understood all of the material.

COB 300, a 12-credit comprehensive course, makes the JMU business school unique from any other. Not only do the classes (marketing, operations, management, and finance) expose students to different business disciplines, the semester-long business plan provides leadership and team building that few, if any, other schools offer. The business school has the perfect combination of guiding students to becoming masters in their field while simultaneously preparing them for the real world. Never in my career have I had a class taught by a teaching assistant, even for the business prerequisites. The professors in the business school are passionate about what they do and genuinely care about preparing students.

The red tape and poor advising stands in the way of a lot of the success of business students at JMU. Faculty is too concerned about their pointless staff meetings, agendas, curriculum guides, and rankings to help students grow and achieve their potential.

JMU inspires a sense of pride in their business students. We come into the business world respected but modest, and capable but coachable. We are in a program that is small enough to facilitate relations among students and faculty, and no one is afraid to approach faculty or peers for advice or assistance.

I believe that JMU business prepares us better for the real world industry. We learn extensively about how an entire corporation works and how different departments work together to help the company progress. We also work extensively in groups to get used to working with different kinds of people, which gives us the ability to develop our interpersonal skills. In my internship, I also stood out because of my extensive computer and problem solving skills.

To become a student in JMU's college of business, we must pass a 12-credit course that covers the four major business disciplines: finance, marketing, operations, and management. We must create a business plan from scratch while enrolled in this course, which challenges our time-management skills and allows us to get real world experience with research and development of a new product. Taking this class really helps us decide if business is actually what we want to do, and many realize it's not for them. The ones who stay in the college of business truly want to be here and perform well.

The two best decisions that I have made since high school have been coming to JMU and enrolling in the computer information systems program. I have a degree in an in-demand field, will graduate with a job, and have made a number of professional and social connections. I strongly recommend JMU for its academics, professors, as well as its non-academic realm. Students at JMU come from all different backgrounds and the administration is making it a priority to increase the level of diversity on campus.

JMU's business school is unique in the amount of time faculty spend with students outside the classroom. The teachers are very approachable and want to help out in any way possible. In the past week alone, I have met with my tax professor from last semester who saw a scholarship application he thought I would be interested in, my adviser about graduate assistantships and a graduation question, and my mentor who is a partner at KPMG and provides advice and answers to my question. Very few schools would give me the opportunity to do any of this. The teachers put the students' needs first and are always willing to help you as long as you ask.

JMU's COB 300 program encapsulates what business education at JMU is all about. There is a high emphasis on teamwork - the business school teaches us how to work effectively, efficiently, and professionally with others. Meanwhile, we learn how to be creative and come up with solutions to problems. The business school pushes students to develop solutions for ourselves. The business school does not hold our hands through assignment, rather, professors give us assignments and let us complete them as we see fit. This teaching method promotes autonomy, independence, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Professors' number one priority is teaching. They are always available for students, even outside of office hours. The culture in the College of Business is one of service and dedication. Professors strive to assist students in mastery of material as well as in the success of their personal lives. The faculty at COB are one of the aspects of COB that stand out to me.

Our business program is unique because in my accounting courses, we get taught the rules and methods of accounting, but our professors also strongly focus on the ethical aspect of accounting. James Madison University accounting grads have a reputation for being bright, hard working, and trustworthy.

Our business program really tries to help us be competitive in the job market. [School staff] work with us to have better resumes and help us to meet employers we may not know about. Also, our COB 300 semester helps us to gain teamwork skills that we will use after we graduate.

Smaller class sizes and no TAs in the business school allow students to engage in classroom discussion and outside discussions with professors. Also, most of the professors have a lot of real world professional job experience in the field of study in which they teach. And they relate this to the class giving students insight to life after graduation.

The COB 300 program is innovative and encompasses all aspects of business (operations, management, finance, and marketing). The new entrepreneurship class complements the 300 program by ignoring business plans and instead focusing on going out and trying to sell an innovative product that can make actual money. The two classes show two different sides to the business world, the paperwork and research, and also the functional and interactive.
