Programs

What full-time options are available at Kellogg?
Kellogg offers several options for pursuing a full-time MBA, including the One-Year (1Y) Program, the traditional Two-Year (2Y) Program, the MMM Program which is a fully integrated two-year program providing the MBA and Masters of Engineering Management, and a 3-year joint-degree JD-MBA program.

TOP

What is the One-Year (1Y) Program?
The One-Year Program is an accelerated MBA program for candidates who have completed the requisite coursework either through undergraduate or graduate coursework. This program allows students to return to the work force quickly while minimizing the amount of repetitive coursework. The 1Y Program does not provide a summer internship opportunity and is best suited for those with clear and consistent career goals. The program begins in June and students take mostly elective courses during their first quarter and join the second-year class in September for three quarters of electives. Like Two-Year students, One-Year students may complete multiple majors; the majority of One-Years choose two or three concentrations.

What are the requirements for the One-Year Program?
While most 1Y students have undergraduate business degrees, the 1Y Program is open to both undergraduate business majors and non-business majors. All candidates must have completed required coursework within the last seven years, which includes accounting and at least five of the following six courses: finance, marketing, operations, statistics, economics, and organizational behavior.

Upon application, candidates must have completed six of the seven required courses or indicate to the Admissions Committee when and where they will enroll in order to complete them prior to the 1Y MBA start date in June. The seventh course can be completed over the summer quarter at Kellogg.

Eligibility should be determined by the applicant. To review course descriptions to see if completed courses meet our requirements, click here. If you remain unsure about whether you meet the course requirements, please review the information in the “Determining Course Eligibililty” section of the website where you will find a course template to complete. E-mail this course template to mbaadmissions@kellogg.northwestern.edu. Please include the phrase “1Y Eligibility” in the subject line.

What is the MMM Program?
The MMM Program is the dual-degree program offered by the Kellogg School and Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. MMM integrates management, operations and design from concept to execution. MMM students learn a systems approach to managing a company: “design thinking” to develop products and services that are innovative and customer focused, and “process thinking” to eliminate operational waste – defects, inventories, delays, movement – in producing and delivering them. This unique combination of skills permits MMM graduates to take a total view of a company’s products and services.

It provides a unique opportunity to earn two degrees in two years with one set of curricular requirements. Students earn the Master of Business Administration from Kellogg and the Master of Engineering Management from the McCormick School. For more information on the MMM Program, click here.

What is the JD-MBA Program?
The JD-MBA Program, a joint degree between Kellogg and Northwestern University’s School of Law, gives students the opportunity to earn a JD and MBA in just three years (it would take five to earn them separately). The core curriculum is complemented with elective course work in such areas as finance, entrepreneurship, international business law, real estate law and tax law. Both degrees are awarded upon completion of 16 managerial courses and 72 hours of law course work.

Students spend their first year of study (including the summer) at the School of Law on the Chicago campus. During the second year, students attend the Kellogg School in Evanston. During the final year of the program, students take courses at the law school but may take additional electives at Kellogg. For more information on this program, click here.

No. Kellogg has no minimum requirements for the GMAT. The average GMAT for the class entering in 2010 is 713, with approximately 70 percent of our enrolled students scoring between 660 and 750. The GMAT is just one criterion our admissions team considers and is not the only indicator for success in business school. GMAT scores are valid for five years from the testing date to the application deadline to which you are applying. We accept the highest total score.

Does Kellogg accept the GRE?
No. Kellogg does not accept the GRE.

Does Kellogg require full-time work experience?

Based on my work experience, academic performance and test scores, am I a competitive candidate? Can you describe what you're looking for in a candidate?
Because our process is holistic and takes into consideration many factors beyond data points, we can’t predict your standing based on test scores and work experience alone. Each application receives a thoughtful and thorough review by a committee of staff and trained students. Although we do consider test scores, scholastic ability and work experience, we are also interested in learning more about each candidate’s values and motivations. We also assess characteristics such as maturity, leadership and potential to contribute to the Kellogg community. The Admissions Office can assist with questions regarding the Full-Time Programs and admissions, but we are unable to offer specific advice regarding one’s candidacy. For more information on the characteristics for our entering class, please review the class profile here.
