我的疑问在A选项。

OG解释只是在强调supplemented才是正确表达句子意思的分词，另外逗号两边表示转折，但没有说明but后面不接句子是错误的。

于是我产生疑惑，but之后是否能接分词结构呢？but是用来表示转折的。

我个人感觉上是不行的。好像做了这么多题还没有遇到过but之后能够接分词结构的。向各位请教意见！更希望大家能够提供实际例子～谢谢大家～

话说这里supplemented难道不是和were来平行的么，而不是分词的说？

你指的是A选项的supplementing吧，那是不可能和were平行的。

but 可以接分词结构，这个不应该是个限制。

but的考点主要有两个：

1.是否是转折关系，如果不是，不能用but。

2.but是连词，要求前后平行。

这题考的是平行。

but前面是个句子，后面是个分词结构，句子和分词结构不平行，所以错！

不知道我解释的对不对，大家一起看看

i think but can not followed by participle.
Participle is only for extending the meaning while but has a shift of meaning. Not consistent.

这题如果把A中的supplementing改为supplemented应该就对了吧，这时候的supplemented为动词，于是but作为连词的用法体现出来了。

当然but能否引导分词结构，似乎还未能下定论。。。

but可以的吧，可以做连词介词（Longman）

用“but+现在分词”表示对比关系，but前面不能有逗号，且but前面只能是短语，不能是句子。（参考运河那题）。本句中“, but supplementing”是现在分词作伴随状语的用法。
