The new contract forbids a strike by the transpotation union.

A) forbids a strike by the transportation union

B) forbids the transpotation union from striking

C) forbids that there be s strike by the transportaion union

D) will forbid the transportation union from striking

E) will forbid that the transportation union strikes

答案为A，我对D有疑惑。

A和D有两处差异，一是时态：一般现在时/一般将来时；

二是FORBID用法，forbid sth.  /  forbid sb. from doing sth. (后面这个用法老师讲课说是错的，可是刚查了朗文当代高级英语辞典，有列出，但例句为被动语态。

求助：1.时态上为什么应该用一般现在时，还是两个时态都可以，视the new contract是否开始执行而定？

2,forbid sb from doing 是否在GMAT中是错的，是语态原因，还是非正式？还是其他？

在Manhattangmat中找到一个解释：
"forbid X to do Y" is the correct idiomatic construction. A lot of people think the correct construction should be "forbid X from (doing) Y" ，we all use this in everday conversation... but it's not grammatically correct.

It sounds terrible, I agree! But that's the idiomatic construction. If it's any consolation, this particular usage isn't tested very frequently.

如此看来，我们可以确定forbid sb from doing sth在书面英语中是不能用的。

forbit 的确有 forbid sb. to do  和 forbid sb. doing 的用法。

但是在 gmat 中forbid sb. to do 常见，至于 forbid sb. doing 为什么错误有待讨论。

有一个猜想，不知道对不对：

美国法律可能规定工人有罢工的权利，所以合同是不能禁止工会罢工的，只能阻碍工会的罢工，比如有很多申报要求之类的。这样，本题中的forbid作阻碍防止解释，这样正确用法就只有：forbid sth. / doing sth.

想着觉得好笑，可是又不是完全没有道理。

同意LZ关于时态的说法。而且，一般不要轻易改变原句时态，对句意的伤害太大。字典确认forbid sb from doing sth是idiomatic，虽然可能不如forbid sb to do sth好。

不敢对NN们定的答案不敬。但我个人是实在不喜欢A。新合同禁止一个运输工会的罢工？甚么意思？我的秘书要这么写报告，我就解雇她。和GMAT要求的直接了当的风格实在差之千里也！最少也应写成：The new contract forbids any strike by the transpotation union. 吧？B多好，The new contract forbids the TU from striking （新合同禁止运输工会罢工），直接了当，禁谁禁它甚么，清楚明白，落地有声。所以，ETS胆敢在我的考试中出这题，我就选B。

关于时态的疑问，我已经查到依据：

白勇的GMAT语法全解上说，“表述反复发生的动作及人或事物的一般特征（不指特定的时间）、客观事实\存在、科学事实、地理位置、统计数据、研究结论、商业惯例、法律规定或合同约定等用一般现在时。”  “不能无根据地改变原句的时态，时态的改变一定要有逻辑理由或时间线索。”  由此，可以推断，这道题A选项用了一般现在时，这个时态是对的，不能改成一般将来时。

但对FORBID的用法还是很困惑。仔细查了字典，FORBID有多个意思，但在第三个意思，朗文的字典有（正式）标志，用的是FORBID DOING。
