请教一道语法题~~ OG12-50

恩，有两个疑惑：
D选项的 to avoid and to come 平行，这样后半句会不完整吗？ and后面不一定是完整句呀~OG解释为什么说后半句不完整呢？

“recession （that）many were fearing earlier in the year ”中的that为什么不可省呢？不是像the book (that) I bought 中的一样吗，that作为后面从句中谓语的宾语？

语法考逻辑

1 avoid的逻辑主语是economy， D中逻辑主语不知道怎么理解。况且D的rather to do 的用法没见过(不完整可能指这个)
that同位语从句都是修饰confidence的

2 我对had feared时态有些问题，我理解的是，recession确定不会发生，那么默认时态就算过去了，fear recession就是过去的过去。不知道楼主是怎么理解的。

3 GMAT 里面，从句的that默认不能省。宾语从句的that省略，我倒是仅仅碰到过一个例外prep08sc1-214

谢谢~ 分析的很透彻~从语义解释就清楚多了~
avoid和come的主语都是economy，而中间B/C/D的介词结构使主语变成了confidence，E后半句that was feared earlier this year by many with it instead coming，被动语态没有必要 且it无指代对象。

至于过去完成时，句中确实没有出现过去时的背景，可能是因为the gains是已经发生了的，early in the year则是更早的情况，所以fear就用过去完成时了吧~
