Yes, when you express " that which remains; persons or things that are left over" . But the remainder could be "remainders" , which means ....

others指代不明，不知道是指people还是被救的人

If the rescue crew has found 1 of the 7, why is that the rest of the 7 can't be called "the others?"

I agree on "remainder" because it seems better than "the others" from modal. at the beginning of the sentence, it is said that .."saved.one of the 7 persons,...can find the remainder.

By the way,  1． On condition that（选项有A they be not named/ C their names are not used） ====> I agree on A.
