我觉得问题出在an age in which great ice sheets had existed，就是描述一个时期，过去的，然后ice sheets在那会存在。an age也是一个具体的时间啊。

请求拍砖。

我的理解是an age when/in which做时间，应该用一般过去时。

如果是过去完成时，那么表示great ice sheets现在已经不存在了，可是这个句子里面并没有表示，ice  sheets以前存在并且现在不在了，所以用一般过去时说明他过去的状态就好了，不用过去完成时。

我个人感觉，这种学术上的concept啊，evidence啊，要么就是一般现在时，要么就是一般过去时。
