我的理解是如果这是阅读理解，你可以使用就近指代去理解原文的含义。
但是如果是语法题，就应该选一个尽量不产生歧义的。

因为前面有一个their是指代most of the Monument Valley Anasazi ，后面的they如果就近指代就是指other clans，如果按前面的their一致性就指most of the Monument Valley Anasazi，所以指代不清.
