问： 能不能介绍一下PENN STATE SCM MBA 的特点啊?还有PENN STATE的文化是什么？

问：我在PSU里面看到，PSU的课程特点是7-1-7的模式。可是在Year-1里面只有2个这样的模式那么不是只有30个星期吗？也就是4个月。是不是PSU是1年的MBA吗？

答：每个学期两个MOD，一个学年就是4个MOD

两年就是8个MOD。

关于申请人

 

问：我的背景欢迎牛们来评估一下有没有可能拿到offer!

本人GMAT 710 AWA 4(丢人啊,丢人~)

GPA 3.1 拿到的是missouri state university的官方成绩,国内合作办学

托福还没有考,想托PSU大哥帮问问,能不能免啊?都是四年外语教学,Dr飞过来讲课的,可以拿到Dr的推荐信, foreigner doctor的推荐信有帮助么??~!

答：Personal opinion:

1..Your GMAT is not your barrier.

2..Your GPA is also fine.

3..TOEFL may not be waived.

4..You are applying for MBA, not master's or PHD. Therefore, recommendations from your direct supervisor in your working environment will be more useful.

5.Your work experience is a little short. Why not work for another year? Why do you need an MBA?

 

问：本人是创业背景出身，办过2个小公司。今后长期目标也想从事创业，但短期是要在一家大公司工作。不知道SMEAL 在创业上的学科怎样。

本人很喜欢这个学校，特别是这个PROGRAM 的氛围。但详细浏览过该学校的网站，但是没有只看到对创业教育是他们FOCUS之一，就没看到其他有关介绍了，不知道这样的背景如何与这个学校的特点联系起来？能指点一二吗？ 谢谢了！！

还有本人G 710   600 GPA 3。25  这样的背景在申请R2 有希望拿到奖吗？

答：创业是几个PORTFOLIO之一。毕业的要求是至少修一个PORTFOLIO。可以按照自己的兴趣修一个PORTFOLIO然后再修些其它方向的课程。也可以修一个主PORTFOLIO，然后再修第二，甚至第三个PORTFOLIO（更多估计木人修得动了）

你这个职业目标得话，可以修一个创业，再另外修一个别得方向得（针对你想大公司做两年得规划，选择相应得方向，比如MARKETING, CORPORATE FINANCE等等）。相辅相成。

创业背景申请的亮点在于，一个显示了LEADERSHIP，COMMUNICATION SKILL等等；另一个相对于广大传统背景的申请人，有利于DIVERSIFY整个PROGRAM，可以CONTRIBUTE很多UNIQUE的东西给同学们，学校应该是会喜欢这类的申请人的。

这个分数是达到了可以拿奖的硬件条件了。当然具体能不能拿到奖，这个都是相对的。要看今年整体申请人的情况。不过额觉得还是希望很大的。关键就是好好写ESSAY，突出自己的优势。好好准备面试表现一下。通常来讲，R2可能比R1难度要大，因为学校要考虑整个剩下来的申请人来分钱，但是该给还是会给的。

关于essay等

 

问：推荐信方面，直接的BOSS可以给写，其他的兼职也可以出证明，是不是希望大些？

SCM方向的MBA就业前景怎么样？

答：What do you mean by "希望大些"?

MBA is a kind of professional training. Recommendations from professional environment is always better.

For Class of 07, Mainland Chinese students with SCM concentration all landed a job in the States.

 

问：PSU没有对essay字数有限制，只是要求一页的长度，不知道学校prefer的字数是多少？maximum 500?

答：No, there is no specific limit. I think 500-600 will be fine.

问：essay 2 中的“pricinpled leadsership”在写的时候，是不是就是着重在ethic上，是否需要再说说leadership其他的方面，象teamwork，take initiative等

答：It is hard to tell. My recommendation is to bring all the necessary points together with your story.

问：essay 3中关于学校的value，是不是应该用来表现个人的personality，着重在outside of work方面的例子更好？

答：You need to blend your stories together, both within work and extra-curriculum.

成绩单，寄送材料等方面

 

问：他们要求2份成绩单？而且education certificate是什么？是毕业证么？是否说出了学位证明，还需要毕业证？（english version)? thanks

答：yes, PSU always asks for two copies of transcripts.

Both diploma and graduate certificate are needed.

Go to 教务处，they know how to prepare the stuff. Put all the transcript/diploma and graduate certificate in one envelop.

面试

（1）刚面试完，紧张而愉快的经历。Share一些问题给大家：

1、review my work experience

2、Why MBA？

3、Why Smeal?

4、Describe something you don't want to do in work and how you handle that?

5、Describe some characteristics of a person you know, who is a good leader from your point of view.

6、Q&A

面试官是David，一个犹太人，很多问题都是源于我自己对工作状态的描述，比较个人化。他超级健谈，最后我问的问题，足足回答了半个小时（整个面试1小时11分钟），说的都很中肯，自己还是很欣赏西方人的直率。

最后问他什么时候有结果，他告诉我短到几天，长到1月之后，不过他给我了一个综合评价：工作年限偏低（至今3年半），Acdemic average（GMAT：660，iBT：99），Leadership比较强，面试很愉快。很有可能拿Offer，但奖学金希望不大

Interviewed with admission director, Carrie, a very very nice lady, on 12/12/2007. The interview lasted one hour.
The whole interview process was very relax, with lots of laugh. Telling stories is the key to the behavior interview. 
Wait  until today, the official one comes.

半小时以前结束的电面~

电话里声音挺小的，我只听到她的名字是Ann … questions asked as follows:

1. career progression and why MBA at this point

2. why smeal

3. example of leadership and your role in the team

4. one leader you admire and three qualities of leadership

5. most constructive advice made by others and how you react

6. most challenging part of MBA study

7. strongest and weakest point of your application

8. what else you want to tell the adcom

录取

问：今年新生多少？

答：我们这个program很小，所以突出的是personal focus. 2007年的新生一共是86个人，分成两个session. 过一个学期以后重新打乱了再分班，以保证每个人都能充分的了解任何一个同学。

small program的优势就在于，所有的老师都认识你，叫得出你得名字。你想找他们谈话问问题尽管约时间。所有的career service都知道你想干吗，只要有工作机会就会主动帮你想着。同学之间都特别熟悉，其实同学是一个很大的资源，和同学的关系越好就越容易从他们那里得到更多的信息和机会。

在被Maryland飞快地拒了之后，对于Smeal的申请曾经不抱希望，结果告诉自己，其实一切皆有可能。希望给自己将来更多信心，也给同样没有很强学术背景的申请人信心。祝大家新年里都能心想事成，Offer不断啦^_^

（2）我未来的太太和我 被PSU录取了

真的很开心，周五晚上收到了PSU的录取通知（电话）。

想想从今年2月份开始看GMAT,一路走来一直到今天，有失望过，有开心过，有彷徨过。

并且，PSU通知我们，一月份还要面试决定奖学金的额度，希望能有好的结果。

背景：

GMAT 710

IELTS 7

working experience: 4 years (industry: Quality Control)

GPA 75/100 （本人专业很难，曾经一门考试全班80%的人没有通过，偶六十几分）

就这些了，希望大家努力不要放弃梦想，而且有时候千万不要对第一个投递的学校放太多希望，很容易被拒绝。
