The dean's speaker series featured high-profile speakers (for example, General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome), the alumni association would host networking events within the area to meet current alumni and discuss topics of the day, there would be faculty panel discussions to discuss current events such as the financial crisis and the impact of the election on business, etc.
Overall, this program was outstanding. It was very challenging but extremely rewarding at the same time. Balancing school, work, and family over the past three years has been one of the most difficult things for me to do in my life. But the rewards have been tremendous. Over the last three years, I was promoted twice and received five raises. My salary went from about $80,000 per year to $140,000 per year. I went from being an individual contributor in operations to an individual contributor in product management and business development to finally a senior manager, managing a team of product managers and business development managers. I am very confident this growth could not have been attained without business school. Furthermore, at a lesser school, I would not have been as motivated as I was by the caliber of students and faculty at Berkeley. The community there strives to be the best and that really pushed me to be the best I can be and it paid off tremendously for me, my family, and for Cisco Systems. |
