【求助】verbal 2nd review RC Q52

每天都会来CD逛逛，但这是第一次发帖，如有什么不足的地方还请多提意见那~先谢谢各位啦~~
关于Verbal 2nd 的RC 第52题完全没有概念那...有没有哪位NN来指点指点....
题目如下：
The passage suggests which of the following about service provide by the regional bank prior to its investment in enhancing that service?
(A) It enabled the bank to retain to customers at an acceptable rate.
(B) It threatened to weaken the bank's competitive position with respect to other regional banks.
(C) It had already been improved after having caused damage to the bank's reputation in the past.
(D) It was slightly superior to that of the bank's regional competitiors.
(E) It needed to be improved to attain parity with th eservice provided by competing banks.
答案：（A)
为什么呢？解释有点看不懂，觉得好像解释与题目没什么关系...

这题有点看懂了……题目的意思大概是从文章中可以看出关于银行在增加投资之前所提供的哪项服务。
因为第二段开头说The truth was not a apparent to managers of one regional bank,所以后文所举的例子一定是the truth的应用。而Truth的条件在第一段。有三个：1、The company is already effectively on a par with ists competitors ; 2. 1的原因是it provides service that avoids a damaging reputation 3、1的另外一个原因是keeps customers from leaving at an unacceptable rate 。也就是说第二段中的regional bank 一定已经满足了这三个条件。再看选项：
A.在可以接受的水平上保留顾客  其实就是条件3的改写，对；
B. 文中没有与其他regional bank相比，not mentioned.  错
C.损害名誉，违反条件2. 错
D.E 与其他竞争者进行比较，违反条件1，“on a par” ，他们的实力相当。（我做题时就是不知道on a par什么意思才做的乱七八糟的，查了一下就豁然开朗了）
