Thomas R. Caleel joined the office as Director in April 2005. He has a wide range of experience as an entrepreneur, venture financier, and chief executive, especially in international markets. His background includes managing international development for a retail start-up; building private equity transactions in the former Soviet Republics; and raising public and private funds across the energy, recycling, and life sciences sectors.
Thomas received an MBA from Wharton in 2003, with a major in finance, and a B.A. in International Relations from Penn in 1994. At Wharton, he won the 2003 Wharton Way Leadership Award and was a Leadership Fellow, co-chair of the Ethics Committee, and a member of the Dean's Graduate Student Advisory Committee. He is also an accomplished horseman who has played polo in professional tournaments around the world. Sharon Brooks joined the University in 1976 and has spent 15 of those years in admissions and financial aid. She assists all full-time MBA students at Wharton in the financial aid process. Her responsibilities for the Office include awarding fellowships and scholarships and advising students about how to pay for their education. While working full-time and raising a family, Sharon earned her degree in Business Management and a certificate in Interior Decorating. Mae Jennifer Shores joined the office in 1998. Mae is responsible for the Office's marketing and communications initiatives, including media relations, publications, advertising, website development, and management of the Wharton MBA Blog! and Student Diaries.
Prior to Wharton, Mae taught Organizational Behavior and Negotiations at the International University of Moscow for the Civic Education Project (CEP). She has also worked as an economic and policy analyst for think tanks in Arizona and New York. Mae earned BA degrees in Economics and History from Guilford College and Arizona State University, respectively, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Mae also earned an MPA degree from Columbia University. Judith S. Hodara joined the Admissions Office in the Fall of 2000. Judith manages the office’s Graduate Assistants and recruiting travel plans, and is engaged with initiatives to bring nontraditional students to the Wharton community.
Prior to Wharton, Judith was the Director of Admissions of the Graduate School of Education at Penn and recruited domestically and internationally for Penn's Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Judith is a Penn lifer: she holds a BA in English (1990), an MSEd in Higher Education (1997), and an EdD in Higher Education Administration (2003). Judith is a strong supporter of Philadelphia's vibrant arts and culture communities. Marilyn Yakowitz joined the office in 2005. A Penn alumna (BA), she holds a PhD (George Washington) and an MBA (U of Maryland) and briefly attended Yale. Her responsibilities range from strategic analysis and strategic operations to oversight of relations with the Graduate Management Admission Council, alumni, and multilaterals.
An international executive for 20 years, she has extensive experience as a liaison with officials from government and business worldwide, including positions at the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) as Head of Emerging Market Country and Regional Programs, Head of Sustainable Development, and Administrator of Regulatory Reform. She has taught finance and management at Université of Paris IV and the University of Maryland College, European Program. Her US background includes being a principal in an environmental consultancy start-up and a manager at the US Department of Commerce for communications with Congress, industry, and academia. An experienced fundraiser, she has served on several boards and is currently an advisor on corporate and government relations to Pro-Natura International. The author of numerous articles, speeches, and book chapters, she edited the OECD bestseller, Sustainable Development: Policy Approaches for the 21st Century. Gabriela Snyder joined the Admissions office in July 2005. She is responsible for diversity recruitment, including pipeline development for prospective students of color. Prior to joining Wharton, Gabriela worked as the Fellowship Program Administrator for the Robert Toigo Foundation, an MBA Fellowship and Leadership Program for underrepresented minorities interested in careers in finance. She also spent several years at Goldman Sachs & Co., first in New York City in Learning and Professional Development and later in San Francisco in Human Capital Management for their West Coast Offices. Gabriela is originally from Venezuela and has lived in Europe and Latin America. She holds a degree in Psychology and Spanish from Amherst College, and her husband Andrew Snyder is a 2007 Wharton MBA graduate. Jackie Zavitz joined the Admissions office in 2006 and is responsible for managing the office's corporate outreach in admissions recruiting and our student-2-student online discussion board. She also serves as an advisor to the Volunteer Admissions Committee, a student organization that educates prospective and admitted students about Wharton and the admissions process. Jackie graduated from American University with a B.A in communications and from University of Pennsylvania with an MSEd. Ainsley Parker is a member of the MBA admissions committee. In addition, Ainsley also oversees the office's student-run events for admitted students, Winter Welcome Weekend and Wharton Welcome Weekend, at which admitted students experience the school's academics and community. Prior to joining MBA Admissions, Ainsley spent several years working with the University of Pennsylvania's Alumni Council on Admissions, where she interviewed and counseled prospective legacy undergraduate students, was a member of the admissions committee, as well as working on alumni outreach and event planning. Before returning to Penn, Ainsley worked at the Foreign Policy Research Institute's Center on Terrorism, Counter-Terrorism and Homeland Security. Ainsley graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in Sociology, and is currently studying for her master's degree in education at Penn's Graduate School of Education.
