that”，在D的many were fearing earlier in the year中recession应该是作为宾

语，同时定语从句的宾语可以省略。那为什么recess必须跟上that呢？

薄冰英语语法里说，定语从句的引导词that如果在定语从句里作宾语的话，在非正式文体中可以省略，我想这里是不是可以理解为是正式文体，所以不能省？而且D选项从the confidence  in the economy to avoid the recession many were fearing earlier in the year这一串感觉乱糟糟的，莫非这就是传说中的awkward？
