Prep1 CR 23

Aproduct that represents a clear technological advance over competing productscan generally command a high price. Because technological advances tend tobe quickly surpassed and companies want to make large profits while they stillcan, many companies charge the maximum possible price for such a product.  But large profits on the new product willgive competitors a strong incentive to quickly match the new product'scapabilities.  Consequently, thestrategy to maximize overall profit from a new product is to charge less thanthe greatest possible price.
Inthe argument above, the two portions in boldface play which of thefollowing roles?
(A)The first is a consideration that has been raised to argue that a certainstrategy is counterproductive; the second presents that strategy.
(B)The first is a consideration raised to support the strategy that the argumentrecommends; the second presents that strategy.
(C)The first is a consideration raised to explain the appeal of a certainstrategy; the second presents that strategy.
(D)The first is an assumption, rejected by the argument, that has been used tojustify a course of action; the second presents that course of action.
(E) The first is a consideration that has been used tojustify pursuing a goal that the argument rejects; the second presents a courseof action that has been adopted in pursuit of that goal.

这题前句讲strategy是按照最高价,结尾句讲的strategy是按照低于最高价,为什么正确答案说the second presents that strategy……

E is a better answer, but E is not a perfect answer.
If C) is changed to the following, it would be a better answer:
C) The first is a consideration raised to explain the appeal of a
certain strategy; the second presents another, better strategy.
First Strategy : many companies charge the greatest price the market
will bear when they have such a (high-tech) product
Consideration raised to explain the appeal of the above strategy:
boldface part 1
Another strategy recommended by the author: boldface part 2.
Based on the stimulus, the companies have one goal in mind, namely, to
make as large a profit as possible. Then the argument is revolving
around two different strategies for achieving that goal.
The first strategy is to set the price of the high-tech product as high
as possible in a given market. To explain the reason for this stategy,
the argument cites that eventally the new technology will be outdated
and a company has to reap the profit fast. However, the first strategy
is rejected on the ground that, setting such a high price will attract
competitors into the market more quickly, decrease the market share of
the first company, and will thus lead to smaller profits in the long
run. In the end, the argument endorses a second strategy: namely,
charging a price that is somewhat lower than the maximum possible
price.

Thanks a lot for the explanation! But the right answer in prep07 is C. I'm agree with your correction of Choice C and prefer to choose E.

我想问的是C选项“(C)The first is a consideration raised to explain

the appeal of a certain strategy; the second presents that strategy.

选型提到的这两个strategy是同一个吗? - ” 是按照低于最高价“

如果是, explain the appeal of ” 是按照低于最高价“怎么理解呢
