Harvard Business School
FINANCIAL AID
All students are eligible to apply for both need-based and non-need-based financial aid, which consist of both fellowships and loans. Eligibility for some programs is based exclusively on your financial need as determined by the Financial Aid and Fellowship Board.
Loan Programs
Most aid is in the form of loans.
Loans carry a legal obligation to repay principal and interest under a defined repayment schedule. Detailed information will be sent to all admitted students.
Federal Loans (Federal Direct Stafford/Ford Loans and Federal Perkins Loans) are currently available to qualified students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
In May 1998, Harvard Business School and Student Loan Corporation, a subsidiary of
Citibank, finalized an agreement under which Citibank would be granted preferred lender status with Harvard MBA students. Although students will still have the freedom to borrow from any lender, we believe that the customized CitiAssistSM program offers several compelling features, including a competitive interest rate and no fees.
In the past, access to private loan programs was generally limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents with a strong credit history.
This arrangement, unique to HBS among business schools with similar cost and financing structures, eliminates access limitations based on citizenship—hurdles that have discouraged a number of potential candidates from applying to the MBA Program in the past.
Under the terms of the preferred lender agreement with Citibank, all HBS students will be
guaranteed loan approval, without a cosigner, regardless of nationality. CitiAssist may verify
your credit as part of the process.
In short, the customized CitiAssist program means that no qualified student should be unable to attend the MBA Program at Harvard simply because he or she cannot obtain financing.
If you choose to use an alternative educational lender (BusinessAccess, MBA/TLP, PEP, SHARE, TERI), you should verify your credit report. Because eligibility for some of these educational loans is dependent upon a satisfactory credit history, MBA Financial Aid Services suggests that you obtain a copy of your report as soon as possible to remedy any discrepancies or problems. International students planning to use an alternative lender should also be
aware that most require a co-applicant who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
HBS Fellowship Program
HBS Fellowships are granted to those students with the highest levels of financial need, regardless of citizenship. The maximum fellowship will cover one year’s tuition, the curriculum materials fee, and a single health insurance fee. The average HBS Fellowship for the class of 2002 was $8,000 per year.
Despite the availability of many loan programs, you should plan carefully before taking on educational debt. A thoughtful search of outside fellowship sources will help to minimize your reliance upon debt financing. Many corporations, government enterprises, professional associations, and foundations have offered fellowship funds to HBS students in the past. To obtain such funding, you must conduct an independent scholarship search.
Most public libraries contain extensive reference materials on scholarship searches. In addition, there is free information available online. You may find the following sites useful:

Yale School of Management
FINANCIAL AID
Obtaining an MBA requires a significant investment of your resources and the Yale School of Management offers a comprehensive financial assistance program ranging from grants and scholarships
to long-term loans to monthly payment programs to loan forgiveness programs. Typically over 60 percent of our students receive aid from loan, grant, and scholarship programs.
MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS
Upon admission, we automatically consider you for merit-based scholarships. No separate application is required. As part of our ongoing commitment to diversity, special scholarships are designated for students from historically underrepresented groups.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Foreign citizens who are not US permanent residents are eligible to apply for private loans as well as scholarships based on need and merit. Yale offers a loan program that does not require a cosigner.
You need to complete the Financial Statement on the application for admission. List only funding that is guaranteed and available for you and include appropriate documentation. You should understand that you are applying for a limited amount of funding based on need and merit. Therefore, we urge you to seek funding from sources in your home country, in addition to applying for financial assistance from Yale. |
