请问：关天作文中正式文体与非正式文体

孙远的GMAT作文中提到GMAT写作测试应使用正式文体，比如下面用法的比较：

don't, mustn't, he's, I've, etc.
do not, must not, he is, I have, etc

I think it's a good idea.
I think that it is a good idea.

Badly defeated in the match, the team returned in low spirits.
The team was badly defeated in the match, and they returned in low spirits.

我怎么感觉若用上述的正式文体显得不简洁，也不生动，只是平铺直叙。GMAT改错不是要求简洁原则原则吗？这是不是出于对商业文书的意思表述清晰单一的考虑？

下面两句哪个是正式文体，我都搞不清了：

He was eager to finish the work, so he continued to do it until midnight.
Eager to finish the work, he continued to do it until midnight.

哈哈，矛盾的地方：语法是要求简洁，可是作文要是不罗索哪来的400字啊。
