答案B. 有一点不是很明白, 我记得as...as, 中间如果除了形容词之外, 如果还要加其他的名词,就要再加上和那个名词搭配的助动词. 也就是说: as wide a radical discrapancy was as ever. 可是这里没加助动词, 就觉得很别扭.

这里说的加助动词问题在as...as 和than连接的句子中都会存在，不是看中间有没有其他的名词，是要看比较的是句子中的什么成分，会不会产生歧义。e.g. He is higher than I (am).这里的am是要省掉的；而She has a better pen than I have.这里的have 必须加上，否则，就会构成pen和I的比较。在本句中，...show ...a radical discrepancy...,wide 是形容词，毫无歧义是修饰名词discrenpancy，因此可以直接作为修饰成分。并且这里discrepancy作为hshow的宾语，是无法和什么助动词相连的，如你所给的was,在前面根本没有对应。
