I think you should be patient and wait for a bit.  The "bottle neck" that

you mentioned should be temporary since you only have two years of w/e.  It

is great that you are ambitious and want to have more exciting roles and

responsibilities but look at your situation from another angle.   There must

be a valid reason that you boss don't want you to go!  You must be extremely

good at your job or extremely likable.  Why not wait for a chance for a

promotion.  The last thing you want to do is to burn a bridge because

remember you need TWO recommendations.  A typical sucessful top 10-20

applicant have about 4 years of w/e.  Also never leave a job unless you have

a better job lined up.  I would not recommend anyone to leave his or her job

to study GMAT.

Good luck!

Thanks for the comments.

I get a much clearer picture of where I am as I wrote them out. First, a decent GMAT score. Then, try to find some job opportunities and see where I can get.

I've proven myself really good in my current position, which includes some assistance job to my boss. But too much administrative work, and I've always wanted to get closer to the market. When some other opportunites were offered, they just don't let me go. I felt like I was ripped of the opportunities coz I'm good, and really upset about that.

As for promotion, in a state-owned company like us, HRs evaluate people in terms of age and degree, instead of competency.....

You raised a great point about state owned companies i.e. bueacratic

structure and etc.  But if you and your boss have a great chemistry or working

relationship then I am sure that he will take good care of you in the long run.

Don't be frustrated because you are bored of doing simple tasks or not getting

enough responsibilities.  You still have a long way to go.  Also don't compare

your self to others on CD i.e. 2 w/e then Wharton.  Everyone has his or her path

to follow hehe.

Btw. what is your current position and what is your boss's position?

Body, or, I should call you (Xiongdi), you knock me there, coz I think you really hit the point. I've been too pushy, and anxious. I just want to get out of the traditional track of the jobs for english majors, and follow my passion for business. To do so, I thought going to buz. school is the best way. But probably I just didn't really consider the practical side.....Maybe an MS in economic or finance would also do?

Probably I should use the “partially government” instead of state-owned company. We call ourselves company, but in the essence, we are... part of the gov. used to be government function.

I belong to the international dept., my boss is the manager of the dept., and everyone else in our office don't really have a title. me, could be called project coordinator, or sth.,dealing with cooperations between us and foreign organizations, foreign companies.

Sounds fancy, but after so many conferences and seminars and agreements.....nothing concrete.Sometimes I was yelling inside my heart “hey, there's the market, why not pay some attention to that?? ” But nobody cares. That's why I was so frustrated.

My boss...he only favors the superficial things, so he could butter the big boss up..... and his political career....is gloomy, coz he had an affair which was revealed...and that one is big sin here...in such a conservative place.

Maybe I went too far...

Anyway, thanks again for the advice, for they are really helpful.
