The Admissions Process Stanford's process is decent but there are some black dots I would like to highlight: 1. Derrick Bolton. Talk about someone with a high ego!!!. I talked to him during an Information Session and he was one of the most arrogant dudes I have ever met. First he was late for the session. Then he handled everyone who raised concerns about Stanford rudely. Always using irony as defense (reminds me of Chandler from Friends) and even being aggressive when questions were asked. He simply dismissed one international chap who had difficulty expressing himself. Dude wanted everyone to implicitly believe that Stanford is a best place to do an MBA. For a school getting criticism for not being responsive, I found the attitude ironic. It was when he feigned interest in knowing what we thought of the first essay question that I realized that he was nothing but a phony. He had exhibited enough arrogance by that time for me to realize that he didn't care. Interestingly somebody asked him at that point whether the applicants were supposed to talk about just one thing (like my dog or myself) since he had used the superlative (what matters to you most?). Listen to me, Mr. Bolton... most of the people you are talking to will kick your sorry ass in the near future as they will be making 20x your salary and will give money to Stanford, helping to pay your salary... So be nice.
2. "We are not a GMAT oriented school"... I have never heard so much bullshit since Clinton said he was faithful to Hillary... Come on, Bolton, we are all grown ups here. And, last but not least... (drum roll)...
3. Stanford has the worst Alumni networks internationally of any M7 schools. Here is a quote from Stanford Magazine:
"the best international students don抰 apply to Stanford because they look for more 搃nternationally-oriented?programs. I can no longer convince my Argentine friends with excellent records to apply to Stanford. Their excuses include: they won抰 be admitted, it is too expensive for a brand not known in Argentina, and there is a perception of the GSB as a 揹omestic?program. "
