30. “Technology ultimately separates and alienates people more than it serves to bring them together.”

First, technology makes people busier and more tired.

1, Workers’ productivity increased, and thus the workers are required to do more work. Actually, people get busier. For example, the invention of laptops provides the possibility for people to continue their work after they leave the company, even on holiday.

2, The more quickly new technology develops, the faster demand changes. This trend accelerates the job obsolescence, and thus, makes people suffer more pressure and anxiety. More time spent on work.

Second, fast communication such as e-mail seems to make the communication easier, but actually, it makes people spend little time to contact with their friends and coworkers face to face.

1, letter

2, MSN focus on their own job

My view

Technology can be good servant, but bad master.

We should make use of these technologies rationally, rather than get dominated by them. While paying attention to efficiency and productivity, we should also concentrate on more important factors, such as affection, care, friends, and so forth.

31“When judging the qualifications of potential employees, business employers should rely primarily on objective information, such as a candidate’s résumé and education. Personal interviews are much too subjective and are therefore not a valid basis on which to judge a person’s qualifications for a job.”

Admittedly

1, First, relying on objective information is a very useful method to select potential employees from a great number of candidates.

Second, sometimes objective information rather than information from interviews is the solid resource of information.

Nevertheless, that is not to say, interview has no use in judging the qualification of potential employees.

1, character

For example, when interviewed by an advertising firm, those who are creative and original will have greater possibility to beat others while those who are more precise will win when interviewed by an auditing company.

These characters cannot be seen in resumes.

2, Can use specific task to observe whether they have enough skill to handle the specific job and then to take over the job.

My view

Use both of them

Use the objective information to choose candidates to attend the interview, and then, use the information come from the interview to decide whether to hire them.

32. Governments should not be responsible for regulating businesses and other organizations. Instead, society would benefit if the organizations themselves assumed responsibility for establishing and enforcing their own standards and regulations.

Admittedly

1, Too much interference from the government would undoubtedly impede the development of businesses and organizations.

This kind of regulation may hurt the positive attitude of the businesses and organizations. Lacking power of independently making decisions will eventually lead the companies to the less active economy.

2, If organizations are allowed to establish their own regulations, the enforcement of regulations will be enhanced and the governmental burden of organizations will be released.

Nevertheless, that is not to say, government should assume no necessary supervision over the business.

the lack of authoritative and uniform regulations will ultimately do harm to both organizations and entire society.

After all, all decisions made by businesses are to achieve the goal - to make profits as many as possible. This action will release many negative results, for example, inordinate competition, for the businesses themselves.

Also, the results will influence the entire society. For example, unqualified products, high prices, environmental pollution, waste of resources, and so on. Government has the responsibility to keep the national market in healthy condition.

My view

Government should put proper regulations, and meanwhile, allow businesses to have adequate freedom. Only doing so can society ultimately benefits
