Verbal Inspiration
Nobel laureate Paul Krugman delivers a lecture to an overflowing audience on the global financial crisis as part of the Kellogg Distinguished Lecture Series. The series is part of a continuing commitment to bring real-world insights into the school's academic discourse. Guest speakers have included financial analyst Alice Schroeder and Newsweek editor Jon Meacham, who have addressed students on a variety of business topics.

Life Outside the Classroom
Once the final class is dismissed, full-time MBA students are eager to get to know one another outside of class. Many step into leadership roles in the 43 management-oriented student clubs and organizations at Kellogg. But Kellogg students aren't one-track business machines; they relate actively outside of the B-school context, courtesy of the school's tennis courts, sailing equipment, two gymnasiums, and indoor track.

Life on the Lake
Kellogg sits on Lake Michigan, just a few miles north of Chicago. For much of the wintry academic year the water is inaccessible, but when weather permits, the Northwestern Lakefill (shown here) teems with activity. Barbecues and 5K races dominate the green grassy areas, while sailing, windsurfing, and students with aquatic equipment stud glittering Lake Michigan. A private beach and winding bike paths provide further recreational opportunities. The area used to be underwater; it was reclaimed from Lake Michigan in the 1960s using landfill materials from the construction of the Port of Indiana.

A Musical School of Management
Who knew MBAs could sing? Kellogg flaunts its flair for the dramatic with its surprisingly strong theatrical contingent. Students here perform in the annual song-and-sketch comedy production, Special K! Revue. A major attraction, the show even tours across the U.S. for audiences of admitted students, alumni, and anyone with an abiding interest in all things Kellogg. It's an especially big hit over alumni weekend, when grads return to compare their own experiences with current Kellogg high jinks. Special K! was founded in 1979, and classic comedic numbers range from "Strategy Night Fever" to "Who Let the Dean Out?"

Food for Thought
At lunchtime, the Atrium surges with hungry MBAs and faculty. With food choices as diverse as the students themselves, offerings include a rotating ethnic buffet, salad bar, ready-made meals, and customized sandwich, stir fry, and pasta stations. At the Atrium, the value of a swarm of future business leaders together in the same place is not lost on potential employers. Up to three companies per day participate in Atrium Hours, where company representatives can meet and network with students in an informal setting.
