wow, fantastic experience... and you have put much thought into your career plans.  I do agree, that each school should have an alumni network and industry contacts.  True, the west coast has the location advantage for IT careers, but your functional desire to work in consulting, marketing within the IT industry should allow you to be based anywhere in the US and then travel to clients as needed across US.
