 Actually, that's not true. The Ivy League refers to group of eight

schools that historically compete with one another in athletics. These

eight schools are: UPenn, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard,

Princeton and Yale.

In contrast, the M7 refers to what are typically regarded as the top 7

ranked business schools (ivy league has nothing to do with rankings), and

has nothing to do with athletics. This is a also an unofficial saying (try

finding a business school that refers to itself as a member of the M7, for

example, and I think you'll find no luck). What the "M" in M7 actually

refers to seems to be anyone's guess. I've seen it referred to as "Magic"

on this forum, although because that word sounds so unacademic I seriously

doubt that's what the business schools would have chosen.

Nonetheless, what's not in dispute is that the M7 typically refers to the

schools steven mentioned.
