34, The Easy Credit Company would gain an advantage onver competing credit card service if we were to donate a portion of the proceeds from the use of our cards to a well-kmown environmental organization in exchange fro the use of its symbol or logo on our card> Since a recent poll shows that a large percentage of the public is concerned aobut the environmental issues, this policy would attract new customers, increase use among existing customers, and enable us to charge interest rates that are higher that the lower ones available.

1) ungrouned assumption: the environmental concern is the only facotr that determine the choice of customer amony availbe creidt cards.

2)ungrounded assumption: adopting this policy will attract new customers and increase the use of the credit cards among exisitng customers

3) ungrounded assumption: to charge interest rates that are higher than the lowest ones available will exert any negative impression about sale of the credit cards..

能否帮助我看看我找的错误对不对?谢谢!

To Joy,  Just for discussion:

==>oints from Sun Yuan's green book for Argument 34

A. The arguer fails to take into account other relevant factors -- the interest rates chargedd for the use of the card, the acceptability of the card in other businesses, services provided by the issuing company, and the reliability of the issuing company etc. --- which are even more important than the environmental concern when a consumer is making a choice among available credit cards.
(This point coincides with your Assumption 1 )

2. The arguer unfairly assumes that raised interest rates of the East Credit Company as a result of its donation to the environmental organization will not exert negative effect on the card's attractiveness to consumers.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

==> Points from the Sample Argument Essays:

1) The author assumes that the environmental organization whose logo is sought is concerned with the same environmental issues about which the poll shows widespread concern.

2) The author assumes that the public's concern about environmental issues will result in its taking steps to do something about the problem.

==>My conclusion:

We can attack the argument from different angles and with different expressions as long as our line of reasoning makes sense.

Virtually , i believe that what the fallacies in the sample is wrong.

Different expressions about fallacies do confuese me. I only need the professional expression to find them . it is ok.

But can u tell me the fallacies i found is ok or not?  thanks !

To Joy,

Actually I totally agree with all your points. Because all of them make sense.

From the two samples I posted we can see that there are more than one way to deal with the argument.

What I am trying to say is that we shall feel confortable and remain confidence when attacking the fallacies of the argument in our own way.

Good Luck and Have a Nice Day!

thank u ,gladys!

I am glad to know that what i found is ok. Thank u !

But i guess that in the real test, we only need to express the fallacies in the professional ways such as those expressed in 800 score. Other expressions is not so standard. Do u think so?

Joy, You are wellcome.

I am glad to have a pal discussing these funny stuffs.

I agree with you that it won' hurt we use those commonly used argument expressions. We do need to memorize and practise some of these expressions
so that they will come out naturally when we are in the real test.

BTW, many thanks to Apan for making efforts posting the topics here.

Joy, I think the fallacies u found are ok, but the expressions should be more various to make the argument not too dull.
Like this:
1. First, the argument failed to consider other possible alternatives to determine the choice of customer amony availbe creidt cards except for the environmental concern.
2.Second, the arguer made an ungrounded assumption that adopting this policy would attract new customers and increase the use of the credit cards among exisitng customers.
3.Finally, it is very likely that to charge higher interest rates will exert some negative impression about sale of the credit cards.
