Q9.

Is x greater than y ?

(1) x – y² > 0

(2) xy < 0

A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.

B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.

C. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.

D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.

E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient

Ans is C.

But I dont get it! I think the element(1) is so obvious!

x > y² , then x must be greater than Y. Do I miss sth?

you might miss if x=y=1/2-->x > y²also
