Personally, according my experience, first, you should practise 26 letter abcdefghiijklmnopqrstuvwxyz in order to remember where the keys are, without looking at the keyboard, then tpye the AWA topics repeatedly, 10 times for one topic.
Because I noticed that even though everyday I have to write some articles, reports, when I exercise on the AWA topics, a lot of errors appeared. Your mind is always faster than your fingers:-) Get used to words' location. In real test, you cannot use paste function.
By the way, try to write near 400 words, otherwise your score will be low. I first got 3, then 5 on essay.
