Which choice is correct and why? I think all the “numbers” in the choices are wrong.

ans. is A.
as explained in OG, in B, the construction its numbers....are more is not idiomatic.

我是说当我们说一种东西的数量时,不是要用the number of ... is ...吗?怎么这里是its numbers are 呢? 谢谢!

OG的解释是说如果用MORE，就应该来修饰这种动物，而不是其NUMBERS。用GREATER修饰NUMBERS更准确些。该题的考点我想应该是在这里。

Greater is for number; more is for quantity.
i.e. Two is greater than one; I have tow more apples than before.
