Thevideo interview component is a required part of Rotman Admissions processdesigned to give all candidates guaranteed "face time" with theAdmissions Committee and showcase your personality, characteristics, passions,and values.

Youwill have an opportunity to test the technology, and then will be asked twotaped questions. Both questions are personality/values based and are designedto be answered without any advanced preparation and will only take a fewminutes to complete. After completing your questions, you will receive aconfirmation email and unique URL to input into this section of the applicationand complete the video component. Welcome to your interview!

We know this may seem a bit intimidating, butyour interviewers want to get a sense of your personality, so relax and beyourself! More often than not, video interviews are a preliminary step in theevaluation process, taking place prior to an in-person interview, instead ofreplacing it.

This is your opportunity to stand out amongstthe crowd, and represent yourself with more than just a standard application,so make the most of it! If you’re new to video interviewing, we highlyrecommend going through this guide. If you’re already familiar with ourexperience, please feel free to get started.

How it works

In the interview, there are some pre-createdquestions for you to answer. Once a question is asked, you’ll be given somepreparation time to plan your response. After this time is up, the recordingwill start, and you’ll be able to complete your response. Interviewers usuallygive between 30 seconds and 2 minutes of response time per question.

Before starting an interview, you’ll have tocheck in to ensure everything is working properly.

After registering for your interview, you’llreceive a email that allows to you to check in at any time. You can come backto finish the check in and start your interview whenever you’d like, as long asit’s before the deadline.

Preparing for the interview

Being prepared helps you stand out amongstthe crowd. We’ve compiled a list of tips to help you in your upcominginterview.

Before the Interview

• Turn off your cell phone before you begin
• Dress how you would for an in-person interview
• Block out between 15-20 minutes, especially if this is your first     time with video interviewing
  

Lighting and Background

• Find a quiet space where you won’t be disrupted
• Keep your background simple and clutter-free
• Make sure you have adequate lighting, and try to keep the light in     front of you
  

Practice Interview

• Practice makes perfect - use the practice suite to get comfortable     with the process
• Keep in mind that the questions you get in the practice interview may     not be the questions you’re asked in the real interview
• Ensure your body and face are at the right distance from the camera
• Check to see that you have proper posture
• Don’t forget to smile! Look into the camera to create a personal     connection with your interviewer
• Take a deep breath, relax and be yourself!
  

Real Interview

• The types of questions you might receive are up to the interviewer
• Some like to test their candidates with skill-based questions, and     others are more interested in knowing more about your personality through     video
• Interviewers may also opt to use text-based questions, so don’t be     alarmed if there isn’t a video question in the interview
  

Alternatives

If you’re missing a webcam, microphone, orlaptop:

• Borrow a laptop from a family member, friend or colleague
• Go to your local library and use the public computers
• Check for any nearby internet cafes, and see if they have the     equipment you need
• Complete the interview on a supported mobile device
  

Mobile

Follow these steps to complete an interviewfrom a mobile device:

1.    Open the invitation on your mobile device

2.    Complete the check-in by downloading Kira Candidate for Android

3.    After installing Kira Candidate, return to the check-in and tap “StartInterview” when you’re ready to start

4.    Once Kira Candidate launches, you can practice and complete the interviewfrom the app
