1. What does a largeinternational student demographic mean to you?

While you are deciding which program to apply to, you mustdetermine first if you would like to attend a program that has a largeinternational student demographic. This holds true for both domestic andinternational students. Most if not all programs will have a student profileand have international student statistics available. For domestic students, ifyou would rather attend a school that does not have a large international representationthen it is important that you find out what percentage of students areinternational for the program you are applying to.

For international students, knowing what programs have a large internationalrepresentation is just as important for two reasons. Some internationalstudents do not want to study in a program that has a big percentage ofinternational students because they are looking for something different, theydo not want to be in a program where they get comfortable interacting withfellow international students and do not venture out and get the fullexperience of studying in the United States.

Otherstudents, however, prefer a program with international students becausestudying abroad comes with certain challenges both culturally and academically.Therefore, having peers that are experience the same challenges helps ease thetransition into their academic studies.

2. I heard that therecent visa regulations restrict the US employer from recruiting internationalstudents. In general, what are the challenges international students face inregards to the employment opportunity, considering the current economicsituation?

There are some challenges that international students faceregarding employment opportunities in the US such as visa restrictions. However, there are ways tohelp overcome those challenges.

One way is to find a MBA program that has a larger international student population.These programs will be accustomed to challenges that international studentsface regarding employment and will be better equipped to handle thosechallenges.  

Another way is to work with the Career Development office at your program.Career Development offices usually have existing relationships with employersand can help place you in an internship and job.  

Lastly,get an internship as early as possible. It is easier for international studentsto gain an internship and employers are more likely to extend an offer to aninternational student if they have previously demonstrated their ability.
