1. The absolute most important thing to remember during theapplication process is that you must put your best application forward. That being said, do not submitan application at the early action deadline if it is not the best applicationyou could submit. Some students want to rush to get their application in at the early decisiondeadline because they feel that they will be more competitive since there is asmaller applicant pool. However, if they do not have a strong application thenit really does not matter when they apply. A good application is a goodapplication regardless of when it is submitted and admission offices understandthat good applications come throughout the application process and have that inmind when reviewing early decision applications.
即使是晚申请的同学, 一份好的申请材料还是能打动招生官的。 所以做好申请材料的每个部分比争取早申请要重要的多。
2. One of the most important things is your GMAT score. Manyschools put a great deal of emphasis on the GMAT, therefore, if you areapplying in the later rounds then you must make sure that your GMAT score isclose to the average or median. If it is not and you have time to retake theGMAT, I would strongly encourage taking a GMAT prep course as well. Iunderstand that a prep course is an additional cost but it may very well be thedifference in getting into your top school. If you did not do as well on theGMAT, did not take a prep course, are not planning on taking one and taking thetest again all you are doing is going through the same motions and hoping for abetter result. The GMAT,like any other standardized admission exam, is a very structured test and ifyou did not do as well as you would have liked then most likely you are missingkey strategies on how to manage and take the exam.
晚申请的同学如果能拿的出比较满意的GMAT的成绩, 也算是有一个理由来解释为什么拖了那么久才做出申请。
3. Your Personal Statement is also key in being competitive in later rounds. The personal statement allows admission officers to get to know you as a person andnot just a test score. The most important thing to remember when writing your personal statement is writeto the prompt that is provided by the school. Schools take time craftingpersonal statement prompts because schools want students who are going to be agood fit for their programs. The biggest mistake you can make is towrite a personal statement that has nothing to do with the prompt. Also, remember to have your personal statement critiqued by either a colleague, professor, supervisor, or anyone that can provide you with positive feedback onyour statement and writing.
个人陈述需要根据学校给的题目, 一一写出申请理由, 每个学校都需要有客制话的说法。
4. If programs give alternatives to applicants such as writing a supplemental essaythen I would encourage you to do so. If they have provided a prompt forthe additional essay then write to that. If they leave it open for you to write, then focus onwhy you are applying in the later rounds, such as ensuring your personalstatement, GMAT or GRE score, and resume are the best they possibly could be.
If you are applying in the later rounds because you had alife altering event in your life, focus on that. They key is to be honestbecause if it is not, then admissions will see right through that.
