People that are well-informed know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most
famous export is the wine which bears its name.

Well-informed people know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous
export is the wine that bears its name.

Which bears its name: INCORRECT. The context of this sentence calls for an essential clause to
modify the wine, since the point of the clause is to identify the wine. If the sentence ended
with the wine, it would be incomplete. The clause should therefore begin with that rather than
which.

Use WHICH (and commas) if the modifier is non-essential.

Use THAT (and no commas) if the modifier is essential.

This mansion, WHICH HAS BEEN RECENTLY PAINTED RED, is owned by the tees.

This mansion, WHICH HAS BEEN RECENTLY PAINTED RED, is owned by the tees.

對於修飾內容是essential的定從,優先使用that+no comma;修飾內容為non-essential的定從,優先使用which+comma。
Well-informed people know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine that bears its name.
which換成that的原因:根據meaning,如果用which的話,bear its name就變成non-essential modifier,意思是就算沒有bear its name,作者的意思都會完全的表達出來,變成是:B是法國的一個地區,那裡最出名的就是酒。
這樣理解的話,說明bear its name不能作為non-essential modifier了,只能是essential modifier,所以要用that+no comma。

hope it helps

If the sentence ended
with the wine, it would be incomplete.
