Heating-oil prices are expected to be higher this year than last because refiners are paving about S5 a barrel more for crude oil than thev were last year.

(B)Heating-oil prices are expected to rise higher this year over last because refiners pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did

(D)It is the expectation that heating-oil prices will be higher for this year over last because refiners are paying about $5 a barrel more for crude oil now than what they were
(E)It is expected that heating-oil prices will rise higher this year than last year's because refiners pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did
看完了之前的帖子，我都还是没有弄明白这个问题。所以我只好再问问大家。
E选项OG说：the possessive last year's doesn't parallel the adverbial phrase this year.
如果理解成状语this year和last year‘s比较我能够明白一定比较错了。可是我看到E选项我的第一反应是last year's是主语的省略，即：last year's (heating-oil prices )就变heating-oil prices this years和last year's (heating-oil prices )主语比较了。我就觉得是对的。
请问大家这样理解哪里出了问题吗？

对的，其实小菜也感觉看到那个东西之后有种比较主语的感觉~可是，lz说的是从语法上看，但却没有分析逻辑上的意思，从逻辑意思上讲：

heating-oil prices this years和last year's (heating-oil prices ) 这两个东东不是“同类别”的东西：一个是油价，一个是去年；
而且倾向的重心也不同，油价应该和油价比，时间应该和时间比~
这是一种rhetorical construction~ 有种比较美在里面~不能乱写~

对对，就是有比较美。后来我去看了比较之庖丁解牛，又问了一个大N，搞明白了，OG里面比较，前后的结构都几乎是完美对应。
这句如果是主语比较，应该是heating-oil prices this years和heating-oil prices last year对应。而last year's这种结构表示主语前面根本就没有对应，不能这么比。last year's只能是用错了的状语比较。正确的是this year和last year比。

是E的比较对象本来就不平行吧...嗯，仔细看 heating-oil prices will rise higher this year than last year's。

就算把last year's 理解看成last years' heating oil prices，但问题是第一个比较对象 heating-oil prices并没有给出范围，限定其是哪年的heating-oil prices对不对。

所以，如果是平行的话，应该是This year's heating oil prices和last year's 来对比，而像现在前一个的时间状语并不在【比较对象主语的修饰限定范围内】，所以E的比较对象本质上就是不平行的~

回去E选项仔细读了几遍，更理解【比较对象主语的修饰限定范围内】这句话了。heating-oil prices wil rise higher this year 这里的状语this year是修饰的整句话，而非主语，主语只有heating-oil prices ，和last year's heating oil prices,根本就无法比较。

我斗胆觉得您解释的不太好，即使前面是This year's heating oil prices，后面比较的时候应该是that of last year，曼哈顿里代词那张讲过的，也就是说than last year's这种形式本身就是有问题的^_^
