正好我看到我笔记上记了这几点..不是大牛，就是复述一下：
appear这个动作实际上不是Neanderthal 发出的（仔细体会一下） 它与indicates 平行 用simple present
have been equipped 用来表现equip时态 不然用appear to 加原型 不就是appear to equip了...
然后 path是因为这是整个neanderthal人的路，用单数
最后 appear as=show up as(manhattan上说的) 和 appear to 的意思完全不一样...

关于equip，除了上面Wellsli提到的时态问题，还有语态的考量。
这里是不能用appear to equip的，抛开时态的因素，也必须用equipped。
因为equip的用法从来都是，
1. equip sb./sth with sth
2. equip sb./sth to do
3. equip sb./sth for sth.
4. equip sb./sth for doing(这个用法在字典里是允许的，但在GMAT似乎就次与to do)
eg. Please equip yourself with a sharp pencil and a rubber for the exam. --- Oxford
