16. During the Second World War, about 375,000 civilians died in the United States and about 408,000 members of the LACE w:st="on">United StatesLACE> armed forces died overseas. On the basis of those figures, it can be concluded that it was not much more dangerous to be overseas in the armed forces during the Second World War than it was to stay at home as a civilian.

Which of the following would reveal most clearly the absurdity of the conclusion drawn above?

(D) Comparing death rates per thousand members of each group rather than comparing total numbers of deaths

(E) Comparing deaths caused by accidents in the LACE w:st="on">United StatesLACE> to deaths caused by combat in the armed forces.

D

D是不是说反了?

我认为正确答案是D。如果在美国的死亡人数占在美国人口总数的20%,而在美国军队的死亡人数占美国军队总人数的80%。那么,很明显,在军队中的死亡可能性更大,也更危险。
